About The Position

The Resident PGY4 engages in a residency education position with the purpose of obtaining an academic affiliated post-graduate educational experience in a controlled academic environment. The incumbent refines and improves skills in all six of the general competencies by providing direct patient care services. Additionally, the Resident PGY4 serves as a liaison between the medical community and the assigned medical facilities.

Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O. in relevant field
  • Certification in relevant specialty or field
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
  • Successful completion of an ACGME accredited Internal Medicine Residency Program
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
  • Commitment to the University’s core values.
  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of pathophysiology and disease processes.
  • Demonstrate knowledge base for inpatient and outpatient clinical care.

  • Establishes an effective therapeutic relationship with patients and families

Responsibilities

  • Defines initial plans of care and determines level of care needed for patients.
  • Assures appropriate evaluation and certification of terminal prognosis.
  • Conducts palliative care consultations and follow up evaluations.
  • Provides medical expertise on pain and symptom management to admission and patient care staff.
  • Consults with attending physicians regarding pain and symptom management and issues involving patient prognosis.
  • Educates community physicians, medical students, residents, and clinical staff on the principles of palliative medicine.
  • Meets with community physicians and healthcare workers to provide education on appropriate referrals.
  • Contributes to the working environment of the department by maintaining a professional atmosphere.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Effectively plan academic endeavors for residents, including the scheduling and management of residents on rotations.
  • Provide effective and constructive feedback to residents.
  • Develop systems to impart clinical reasoning teaching to residents at different levels.
  • Under supervision of a board-certified faculty member, provide supervision to residents on an inpatient service and lead a team.
  • Moderate and handle disagreements, adverse actions or other issues that occur as a part of a comprehensive educational program.
  • Gain general career and leadership development.
