About The Position

The Chief Legal Officer will report directly to the Commissioner and will perform a broad scope of legal duties. This includes providing sound legal advice on various matters, reviewing procedures, policies, programs, contracts, and legislation, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws. The role also involves drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and executing contractual agreements, managing litigation-related activities, and overseeing privacy-related work in compliance with NYC laws. The Chief Legal Officer will supervise members of the Legal team and maintain a filing system for all legally related documents.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor from an American Bar Association-accredited law school.
• Admission to the New York State Bar.
• At least seven (7) years of recent full-time, responsible, relevant legal experience.
• At least three (3) years providing supervision to legal staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide sound legal advice to the Commissioner and staff on a broad range of matters.
• Draft, review, negotiate, and execute contractual agreements.
• Provide procurement-related legal guidance and advice.
• Provide daily direct supervision to members of the Legal team.
• Analyze compliance with the rules of the Conflict-of-Interest Board.
• Oversee the implementation of privacy-related work and compliance with privacy laws.
• Review Freedom of Information Law requests.
• Manage litigation-related activities in collaboration with the NYC Law Department.
• Maintain a filing system for all legally related documents.
• Support or lead other special projects and duties as assigned.
