About The Position
Care Quality Commission (CQC) is one of the most important bodies in the health and social care system in England. Our purpose is to ensure health and care services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate, high-quality care and to encourage those services to improve. Recent months have been very challenging for CQC and 2 important reviews have been published into how we work. These reviews are the final report of Dr Penny Dash's review and the first report of the review commissioned by CQC from Professor Sir Mike Richards. The CQC Board has accepted the findings and the high-level recommendations of both reports, and we are taking rapid action in response. We have embarked on a major programme of change and improvement to take our organisation forward as an expert regulator. Our new Chief Executive, Sir Julian Hartley has now joined the organisation to drive this programme forward. We are committed to ensuring that our regulation is more relevant to the way care is now delivered, more flexible to manage risk and uncertainty, with an ability to respond in a quicker and more proportionate way as the health and care environment continues to evolve. While our role as a regulator does not change, we need to continue to evolve the way that we work. One of the changes we wish to make, which was supported by Professor Sir Mike Richards report, is the appointment of four Chief Inspectors including the role of Chief Inspector of Primary and Community Services. This is a critical appointment for us as we seek to engage and support colleagues in primary care and community services to develop and improve their services further. We are seeking an exceptional individual for this role who can inspire the trust and confidence of the public and primary and community services professionals locally, regionally and nationally.
