About The Position

The General Aviation Maintenance Chief Inspector oversees the inspection and quality control functions in the general aviation maintenance operation. This role ensures all aircraft maintenance and repair work meets FAA regulations, internal policies, and industry best practices. The ideal candidate has deep technical knowledge, strong organizational skills, and a leadership mindset to drive safety and compliance throughout the shop.

Requirements

  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) License required.
  • Inspection Authorization (IA) required.
  • Minimum of 5 years in aircraft maintenance, with at least 2 years in an inspection or quality role.
  • Thorough understanding of FAA regulations, inspection procedures, and general aviation aircraft systems.
  • Attention to detail and strong documentation habits.
  • Clear communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, drawings, and regulatory documents.
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience in aviation maintenance.
  • Experience with FAA audits and digital maintenance records.

Responsibilities

  • Quality Control & Inspection Oversight
  • Conduct annual inspections and final quality control (QC) inspections on all aircraft maintenance repairs, ensuring safety, airworthiness, and documentation accuracy.
  • Ensure proper inspection techniques are followed by all technicians, maintaining consistent quality standards across all teams.
  • Supervise and coordinate inbound/outbound quality inspections.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve inspection processes to uphold the highest levels of workmanship.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Documentation
  • Ensure all maintenance complies with FAA regulations, including:
  • Airworthiness Directives (ADs)
  • Service Bulletins (SBs)
  • Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICAs)
  • Verify compliance with manufacturer maintenance instructions and federal regulations.
  • Oversee the accuracy of all logbook entries related to inspections, repairs, and airworthiness.
  • Act as liaison during regulatory audits or visits by the FAA or other governing bodies.
  • Software and Recordkeeping Management
  • Manage the use and accuracy of digital maintenance records.
  • Maintain detailed, accurate, and audit-ready records of all inspections, repairs, and part installations.
  • Support digital documentation practices that meet FAA standards and streamline maintenance tracking.
  • Leadership & Team Support
  • Provide inspection guidance to A&Ps, IAs, and apprentices.
  • Ensure technicians understand and follow correct inspection procedures and safety protocols.
  • Support internal training initiatives related to inspection criteria, documentation standards, and compliance awareness.
  • Serve as a leader in maintaining a safety-first, standards-driven culture on the shop floor.
  • Champion continuous improvement in maintenance safety, reliability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Shop Tools & Parts Oversight
  • Oversee the calibration and proper use of all inspection tools and measurement equipment.
  • Research and verify aircraft part numbers for accuracy and legality before purchase and installation.
