About The Position

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Providence is a strategic and innovative technology leader responsible for overseeing the development and transformation of the technology infrastructure and systems across the organization. This role involves leading all aspects of information technology, including digital and artificial intelligence initiatives, to ensure alignment with the strategic and operational plans of the health system. The CIO will work closely with executive and clinical leaders to enhance the caregiver experience, optimize applications, and drive technology transformation in a complex healthcare environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in business administration, information technology, or related field preferred.
  • Significant and progressive leadership experience in a senior technology position, preferably within a complex health system.
  • Proven success with developing and leading technology innovation and transformation.
  • Strong change management experience to support long-term transformation.
  • Understanding of opportunities and challenges in deploying AI across a health system.
  • Knowledge and experience with implementation, integration, and optimization of major information systems such as EHR and ERP.
  • Experience with Epic EHR and supporting technology needs of academic and research environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to attract, support, and develop talent within the organization.
  • Understanding of healthcare data security frameworks and HIPAA implications.

  • Experience with web and mobile development technologies/services, platforms, enterprise integration, and cloud computing.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development and transformation of the technology infrastructure and systems that support Providence as a fully integrated health system.
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of the system-wide strategic plan for long-term information systems resourcing.
  • Lead IT strategy that increases focus on new provider, payer, and consumer ecosystem strategies.
  • Oversee the development and execution of the technology strategy in partnership with executive leaders.
  • Envision and propose technological advancements to support the delivery of care and operational needs.
  • Provide leadership for technology operations teams in maintaining the current environment while building new capabilities.
  • Direct the development and implementation of AI and ML initiatives across the enterprise.
  • Establish metrics, policies, and communication processes for consistent management of technology functions.
  • Ensure the continued optimization and integration of the Epic EHR and other clinical systems.
  • Oversee an effective enterprise governance model for technology decision-making.
  • Develop strong relationships with clinicians and be seen as a trusted advisor on IT matters.
  • Champion data-driven decision making with advanced data and analytics across the organization.
  • Oversee and activate a high-functioning information security program.
  • Partner to develop and deliver technology solutions that advance communication and impact clinical outcomes.
  • Provide financial management of the operating and capital budgets for technology functions.
  • Develop and advance IT leaders and team members, supporting a culture of service and innovation.
