What your day-to-day as a Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) at Fermilab will look like: Collaborate, develop, and direct short- and long-range HR strategies aligned with Laboratory objectives, Federal/State legislation, DOE contract requirements, and DOE orders. Partner with senior leadership to secure support for HR strategies and initiatives. Provide overall leadership and guidance to HR functions, including talent acquisition, career development, succession planning, retention, training, leadership development, compensation, benefits, and wellbeing. Identify and articulate people and culture issues, policies, procedures, and practices that impact the mission and climate of the organization. Ensure compliance with safety, quality programs, and DOE prime contractor requirements and deliverables for Human Resources. Support workforce planning and development activities in partnership with senior leadership and management across all locations. Collaborate with the Office of Workforce Pathways and Partnerships on implementing institutional goals. Oversee all personnel actions for direct reports and their departments, including hiring, promotions, performance management, disciplinary actions, and terminations. Provide support for talent development and management initiatives, including organizational development interventions and change navigation. Interact regularly and seamlessly with DOE program and site offices. Participate in leadership meetings and strategic planning sessions. Abide by and perform all duties in accordance with environmental, health, and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position. Other duties as assigned. Skills and Attributes for Success: Bachelor’s degree in human resources, public/business administration, or a social science with 10+ years of experience in multiple HR disciplines and 7+ years of senior HR management experience. Advanced degree in human resources or public/business administration and/or work experience at a national laboratory preferred. Deep and broad technical HR expertise across multiple disciplines, including recruiting, training and development, compensation, wellbeing, benefits, employee relations, and HCM systems. Substantial experience in HR administration, project management, and supervision, including labor relations, ADA compliance, negotiations, contract administration, policy and program development, strategic planning, operational oversight, regulatory compliance, and fiscal/budget management. Demonstrated ability to mobilize and motivate teams, set direction and approach, work in a complex and collaborative environment, deliver tough messages with professionalism, and make decisions with limited information and ambiguity. Ability to partner and influence all levels of the Laboratory, including employees, DOE representatives, Lab Director, senior and division managers, and board members. Excellent verbal, written communication, and presentation skills.
