About The Position

The Chief Geologist serves as a corporate technical expert in geology, ensuring the advancement of geological best practices across all regions and assets. This role involves providing technical resources for complex subsurface issues, facilitating learning opportunities for geologists, and supporting strategic growth through evaluation of new ventures or acquisitions. The position requires advanced experience in applying new technology to enhance asset value and mentoring geologists to maximize their effectiveness in subsurface analysis.

Requirements

• M.S. degree in Geology or Geophysics is required.
• Minimum of 10 years of applicable geology experience.
• Expert level of skill in Microsoft Office.
• Expert user of geoscience petro-technical software.
• Advanced ability to map subsurface data at all scales.
• Advanced ability analyzing rock data at various scales.
• Advanced knowledge of critical mapping techniques/styles and shale rock analyses.
• Advanced knowledge of basic petrophysical workflows and their limitations.
• Advanced experience supporting drilling and completion operations.

Nice To Haves

• Communication and teaching skills are advanced.
• Well-versed in resource play evaluation methods and analysis.
• Experienced in risk analysis methods.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for corporate processes and workflows to increase asset value for each drilling cycle across assets and regions.
• Act as a resource for the QC, design analysis, and contracts/licensing for geological-related projects in the regions.
• Train and guide others in developing correlations between geological, geophysical, and completion variables and well performance.
• Encourage geologists to access and integrate geophysical and engineering data in their interpretations.
• Provide initiative and consulting for subsurface studies to characterize the reservoir at various scales.
• Identify and characterize up hole/downhole objectives for existing assets to generate future drilling opportunities.
• Leverage industry contacts and consortiums to provide technical advantage.
• Represent SM at forums and conferences to raise corporate technical profile.
• Anticipate geological analysis and software needs and provide leadership to fulfill those needs.
• Provide technical guidance for IR presentations.
