About The Position

The Chief Flight Nurse at Bismarck Air Medical is responsible for the safe transport of medical patients in a fixed-wing aircraft, ensuring operational oversight, compliance, and leadership within the medical team. This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders, policy setting, training, and community outreach to enhance patient care in rural North Dakota communities.

Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor of Nursing degree.
  • Experience in flight nursing or a similar medical transport role.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage compliance and regulatory requirements.

  • Knowledge of aviation and emergency medical services.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct all Flight Nurse Duties in accordance with BAM Flight Nurse description.
  • Setup missions as needed and answer dispatch questions related to licensing, insurance, and providing quotes as needed.
  • Conduct post-flight care surveys with the patient and transferring facility, addressing any issues as necessary.
  • Oversee all Medical Operations including flight call schedule and flight medic/nurse readiness.
  • Write and update policies and coordinate with the Director of Flight Operations.
  • Perform QA/QI on all trip tickets and manage staff job descriptions, goal setting, and evaluations.
  • Promote a healthy culture and company values while supporting strategic initiatives.
  • Track and report supplies, and have final hiring authority of BAM Medical Staff.
  • Manage flight gear checklist, updates of equipment, restocks, and equipment issues.
  • Coordinate ordering of flight suits for RNs/Medics and send email reminders to staff regarding payroll, meetings, and clinical guideline changes.
  • Approve Medic and RN hours for payroll and manage the location of missing documents.
  • Ensure BAM Medical and Air Ambulance compliance, including NICU oversight and assist with employee recognition events.
  • Train new staff on equipment, flights, paperwork, and clinical guidelines, and ensure flight medic readiness.
  • Schedule BAM meetings, manage agendas, and oversee safety committee and clinical guidelines review.
  • Assist the Director of Flight Operations with Flight Safety Training and community outreach activities.
