About The Position

This role is a unique opportunity to drive the financial strategy in a profitable and growing employee-owned organization, making a significant impact on both the operational and strategic success of the company. As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will collaborate with the President/CEO, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Business Line Leaders, project teams, and department heads to shape and implement financial strategies that support the company's goals. The CFO will report directly to the CEO, Bob Belitz, and will be based, on a hybrid basis, in our Westfield, Massachusetts Headquarters.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 15+ years of executive-level progressively responsible financial experience in a professional services firm.
  • A Certified Public Accountant designation preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven experience in information systems planning, organization, and development.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and strategic planning skills.
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including senior management, clients, and other departments.
  • Excellent negotiating skills and experience.
  • Demonstrated analytical ability, good judgment and strong operational focus.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver actionable financial insights and recommendations to the CEO, COO, and Business Line Leadership to support sound business decision-making.
  • Lead the annual and long-term financial planning processes, including the development of budgets and financial strategies that align with organizational objectives.
  • Monitor, report, and communicate on financial performance and trends to the Board of Directors, Senior Management, and staff, ensuring transparency and alignment with company goals.
  • Partner with the CEO in the development and evaluation of performance metrics, linking these to the annual incentive compensation program.
  • Work with the COO and Business Line Leaders to analyze project performance, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and manage cash flow forecasting to ensure the effectiveness of the company's shareholder transition program.
  • Communicate financial data to clients as needed throughout project lifecycles.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and other applicable accounting standards, ensuring financial information is accurate and reliable.
  • Collaborate with project teams to manage receivables and unbilled revenue, enhancing cash flow management and project financial performance.
  • Oversee the treasury function, including cash management and disbursement processes, serving as the primary signer for financial transactions.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and client-specific financial reporting and audit requirements.
  • Maintain strong relationships with external auditors, financial institutions, and third-party stakeholders.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of tax returns and related filings.
  • Stay abreast of new accounting pronouncements and regulatory changes that may impact the company.
  • Partner with the CEO to assess potential acquisitions and new business ventures, including conducting financial and tax due diligence.
  • Oversee shareholder stock purchase programs and the ESOP, liaising with external advisors for annual valuation.
  • Assist the CEO and Board of Directors in governance and committee activities, including audit and retirement plan management.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and HR Director to manage employee benefit and compensation programs.
  • Develop and execute tax planning strategies to optimize the company's financial performance.
  • Lead or participate in special projects that require financial or business analysis.
  • Implement and maintain systems to ensure strong internal controls, meeting financial reporting and compliance requirements.
  • Identify and apply best practices across all financial functions to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Benchmark financial performance against industry peers and develop strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Work with IT and the COO to enhance business systems and infrastructure, ensuring financial processes are scalable and efficient.
  • Integrate financial systems and processes for any acquired companies.
  • Ensure the finance team delivers exceptional client service to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team capable of scaling with the company's growth and increasing complexity.
  • Provide ongoing financial education and training across the organization to foster financial literacy and awareness at all levels.
