About Sarah Cannon Research Institute (SCRI) Sarah Cannon Research Institute (SCRI) is one of the world’s leading oncology research organizations conducting community-based clinical trials. Focused on advancing therapies for patients for more than three decades, SCRI is a leader in drug development. We have conducted more than 800 first-in-human clinical trials since our inception and contributed to pivotal research that has led to the majority of new cancer therapies approved by the FDA today. In 2022, HCA Heathcare and McKesson announced a joint venture combining McKesson’s US Oncology Research and HCA’s SCRI to advance cancer care and expand access to onology clinical research. With 51% ownership, McKesson assumed operating control and both parties are actively engaged in strategic oversight and governance, including the Board. SCRI Development Innovations, our global, full-service Contract Research Organization (CRO) works in concert with SCRI's SMO, specializing in oncology clinical development services from first-in-human studies to regulatory approval. The Role The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is accountable for the administrative, financial, and risk management operations of Sarah Cannon. The CFO will serve as the chief financial spokesperson and will oversee all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to budget management, cost analysis, accounting and forecasting needs. The CFO will facilitate internal alignment and drive key negotiations with suppliers, customers, and partnership opportunities. As a member of the executive team, the CFO provides input on operations and the overall direction of the company. These responsibilities are applicable to: Sarah Cannon Research Institute including the Site Support Organization, Development Innovations, and all supporting organizations. Additionally, the CFO supports a network of formal and informal relationships that range from potential acquisitions or contracted partnerships to joint ventures and merged entities.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of experience, including senior-level finance or accounting position
  • Experience in strategic planning and execution
  • Experience working in a pharmaceutical company or clinical research organization
  • Extensive and progressive management / leadership experience
  • Experience with contracting and pricing clinical research trials
  • Knowledge of contracting, negotiating, and change management
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems
  • Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations
  • Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
  • Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects
  • Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and ongoing reporting of the annual operating and capital budget for the overall company and each line of business.
  • Collaborate with Senior Leaders and Executives to ensure investments and the budget align with the overall company strategies and tactics.
  • Prepare leadership team and present annual budget and monthly operating reviews to SCRI Board of Directors, McKesson, and HCA senior officers.
  • Establish and maintain a reporting system to inform company executives on the operating and financial results of the company.
  • Provide insights and recommendations on potential actions or adjustments to operating or strategic plans.
  • Develop and maintain an internal control structure and environment to maintain the integrity of the company records and ensure appropriate diligence and approvals for all significant investments including but not limited to technology investments, facilities, and acquisitions.
  • Oversee the efficient operations of the financial processes and systems.
  • Ensure all operating processes and systems are provided for consistent application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Ensure effective treasury and cash management controls and liquidity necessary for the business operations and potential future distributions
  • Engage with the Executive Team to provide input into strategic initiatives, company operating model, operational execution, and financial issues, trends, and changes.
  • Foster relationships across MCK and HCA to ensure proper integration and reporting for consolidation purposes
  • Provide tools and methods to educate the financial organization and broader workforce on financial disciplines including business case and pro forma statement development, financial reporting and analysis, and general accounting principles.
  • Coordinate the schedule, scope, and work activities of internal and external audit teams ensuring timely, accurate, and professional representation of all findings and results
  • Develop and direct the implementation of strategic business and/or operational plans, projects, programs and systems. This includes the annual view of the long-range operating plan for Sarah Cannon.
  • Provide strategic direction and oversight for all revenue cycle management activities to ensure efficient and effective operations.
  • Lead the development and implementation of pricing strategies to maximize revenue and profitability while maintaining market competitiveness.
  • Oversee and participate in contract negotiations with physician practices, BioPharma customers, and vendors to secure favorable terms and conditions.
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with pricing and contract terms, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • Recruit, train, mentor, supervise, and evaluate department staff while building an effective team dynamic.
  • Maintain strictest confidentiality on all matters.
  • Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations
  • Facilitate the annual strategic planning process and ensure cascade and execution of the same in partnership with the strategy and transformation team.
  • Deliver process improvement and drive operational excellence across the Sarah Cannon system, leveraging tools/methodologies such as six sigma.
