About the position

The Chief Finance Officer (CFO) is responsible for managing the financial operations of the organization, ensuring the Center's financial health and sustainability. This role will oversee financial strategy, financial planning and analysis, general accounting, grant compliance and reporting, and adherence to regulatory and donor requirements as well as Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. The CFO provides counsel and support to the Executive Team and the Board of Directors to develop and implement financial strategies that support the organization's mission and goals. The CFO reports to the Chief Strategy and Operations Officer (CSOO). The CFO will join the Center during a season of expansion, growth, and opportunity, as they embark upon their new strategic plan, and endeavor to protect reproductive rights around the world.

Responsibilities

  • Establish a financial vision, planning, and forecasting process, to ensure that financial resources are powering the realization of the Center's mission.
  • Oversee and optimize short- and long-term budget planning and cost management in alignment with the strategic plan.
  • Report the Center's financials, forecasts, and metrics to the Executive Leadership Team monthly to generate insights from financial data to support organizational decisions.
  • Report on the financial performance of the organization to the Finance and Audit Committee of the Board of Directors, including regular updates on budget performance, forecasts, and financial risks and opportunities.
  • Partner with programmatic and operational leaders to align financial resources with organizational priorities.
  • Manage cash flow to meet working capital needs and ensure liquidity.
  • Collaborate with the Center's investment advisors to ensure that the organization's investment portfolio is managed consistently with the terms of the Investment Policy Statement.
  • Ensure the Finance department is equipped with the right systems, structures, people, and partners to effectively deliver on team and organizational goals.
  • Ensure financial tools are operationalized to highlight meaningful insights and guide short- and long-term decision-making.
  • Ensure successful annual audits and compliance, including all required tax filings and state registrations; implement auditor recommendations as needed.
  • Oversee preparation and submission of timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Provide oversight to grants compliance including budget development, contracting, reporting/monitoring, and grants receivable management.
  • Develop and implement risk identification and controls, systems and procedures for effective operations, and timely monitoring and reporting.
  • Supervise and mentor the Accounting, Finance and Financial Grants Compliance teams.
  • Provide leadership, training, and support for the department, including directly managing and developing the finance, accounting, grants compliance, facilities, and IT teams, ensuring goals are met.
  • Establish a strong partnership model for how other teams will work with finance to advance the organization's goals.
  • Ensure compliance with donor requirements, international and US financial regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Maintain a strong internal control environment to safeguard the organization's assets.
  • Oversee financial compliance in all international operations, considering local laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Manage risk assessment processes, including foreign exchange risks, operational risks, and fraud prevention.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors and other financial service providers to ensure compliance with all reporting and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • 10+ years as a Senior Leader overseeing organizations with multiple locations and international operations, managing diverse revenue streams- Required
  • Expert in accounting processes with the ability to develop and drive strategic initiatives through an accounting perspective
  • 5+ years experience working with executive leaders and boards of directors- Required
  • Proven experience driving and managing organizational change
  • Passion for protecting reproductive rights as fundamental human rights globally
  • CPA- Required
