Serving communities across multiple geographic territories, the organization delivers high-quality, mission-driven programs and services while advocating for policies that strengthen disability services nationwide. Easterseals Midwest is entering an exciting new chapter and seeks an experienced, strategic, and mission-driven Chief Executive Officer to build on a strong foundation and lead the organization forward. The Opportunity The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) serves as the organization’s chief strategist, advocate, and spokesperson, working in close partnership with the Board of Directors and executive leadership team. The CEO will lead a complex, multi-state nonprofit organization, balancing continuity with innovation while advancing growth, advocacy, and long-term sustainability. This is a unique opportunity for a proven nonprofit executive to follow a highly successful, long-tenured CEO and guide Easterseals Midwest through its next phase of impact and expansion.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of senior or C-suite leadership experience, preferably in a complex, multi-state nonprofit organization
  • Deep, hands-on experience in disability services, including Medicaid and home- and community-based services (HCBS)
  • Proven success in strategic planning, organizational growth, advocacy, and financial stewardship
  • Exceptional communication skills, including public speaking, writing, and media engagement
  • Strong financial acumen, including experience with grants, diversified funding streams, and changing payment models
  • A leadership style grounded in integrity, collaboration, empathy, and accountability
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and mission-driven leadership
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred (business, public administration, human services, or related field)

Responsibilities

  • Lead the collaborative review and refinement of the long-term strategic plan, leveraging data-driven insights and stakeholder feedback to adapt the organization’s trajectory and evolution
  • Drive disciplined, mission-aligned growth, including organic expansion and strategic mergers and acquisitions
  • Ensure alignment of people, resources, systems, and priorities across the organization
  • Serve as the organization’s chief advocate at the local, state, and federal levels
  • Build and sustain trusted relationships with policymakers, regulators, and coalition partners
  • Represent Easterseals Midwest as a thought leader in disability services and public policy forums
  • Ensure operational excellence, program quality, and regulatory compliance across all services
  • Oversee financial health, including budgeting, financial controls, funding diversification, and adaptation to evolving reimbursement models
  • Develop, support and maintain a high-performing executive leadership team and retain top talent throughout the organization
  • Guide fundraising and development strategy, including donor, foundation, and government relationships
  • Serve as the primary spokesperson for the organization, demonstrating excellence in public speaking, media engagement, and strategic storytelling
  • Strengthen organizational visibility, reputation, and impact messaging
  • Cultivate a strong, transparent partnership with the Board of Directors
  • Engage donors, funders, community leaders, and partners to advance the mission
