Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) is seeking to hire a Chief Executive Officer (CEO), a fundamental leadership position that reports directly to the Board of Directors. The CEO will serve as the Chief Executive and General Manager of CDTA, responsible for the administration and operation of the organization's services and facilities. A key focus of this role is the continuous improvement of the company brand and image, which is essential for the development and expansion of CDTA and the communities it serves. The CEO will prioritize sustaining current funding, addressing budgetary challenges, and balancing advocacy with efficient management. Established in 1970 by the New York State Legislature, CDTA serves a six-county area covering 2,500 square miles and is home to approximately 850,000 residents. The organization facilitates over 50,000 customer boardings on weekdays through its bus services, and one million people board trains at the Joseph L. Bruno Rail Station and Saratoga Springs Train Stations annually. The CDTA network includes regular routes, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lines, express routes, park and ride lots, and services for individuals with disabilities (STAR). Additionally, the system features a regional bikeshare program called CDPHP Cycle!, a carshare program named DRIVE, and an on-demand service known as FLEX. The CEO will oversee all aspects of planning, financing, administration, and operation of the company's services and facilities. This role requires the development and maintenance of meaningful relationships with stakeholders and customers while representing CDTA within the community. The CEO will also manage relationships with the Board of Directors to create plans and roadmaps for projects, policies, and activities that support the vision and success of the organization. Furthermore, the CEO is responsible for organizing the professional staff, which includes recruiting, hiring, developing, evaluating, and delegating responsibilities appropriately. The ideal candidate will possess leadership and management attributes such as integrity, innovation, critical thinking, effective communication, approachability, fiscal conservatism, adaptability, decisiveness, and professional decision-making skills. The ability to engage, encourage, and empower the workforce while fostering a universal understanding of how each employee contributes to the mission is critical for success in this role.
