About The Position

The Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer (CECO) at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is responsible for overseeing a comprehensive ethics and compliance program aimed at mitigating risks and maintaining the university's distinguished reputation. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in finance, business, public administration, criminal justice or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least five years of management experience in a complex and regulated environment.
  • Ability to manage ethical, legal, and investigative matters with integrity and discretion.
  • Proven record in drafting and implementing compliance policies and training.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Experience in fostering a diverse and inclusive environment.
  • Innovative thinker with strong analytical skills and ability to manage complex initiatives.
  • Technology savvy with experience in managing large volumes of information and data.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the maintenance and enhancement of the university's ethics and compliance program.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the Integrity and Compliance Office and supervise staff.
  • Develop and implement processes, systems, and tools for the Integrity and Compliance Office.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to compliance partners in various departments.
  • Develop and implement ethical business processes and associated policies and training.
  • Implement educational and training programs on ethics and compliance for all staff.
  • Promote a culture of ethics and compliance across the university.
  • Monitor and assess key compliance risk areas and identify major compliance risks.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and ensure university compliance with them.
  • Coordinate and respond to inquiries and audits by regulatory agencies.
  • Coordinate compliance investigations and recommend corrective actions.
  • Monitor compliance partner programs for effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with the Office of University Counsel to address legal risks.
  • Maintain the university's policy program and update standards including the employee Code of Conduct.
  • Manage university-wide compliance training and communications.
  • Maintain awareness of federal and state laws and inform relevant departments of changes.
  • Coordinate the university's compliance helpline and ensure concerns are investigated and resolved.
  • Leverage compliance partner risk assessments to identify potential compliance risks.
  • Communicate regularly with the Chief Audit and Compliance Executive and stakeholders regarding compliance efforts.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the ethics and compliance program and take steps to improve it.
  • Conduct investigations in partnership with other offices and prepare reports.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning process of Audit and Compliance Services.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for Cabinet and provide briefings at board meetings.
