The Chief Engineer is responsible for operational management and daily leadership of the engineering team in Virginia, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of all machinery and systems. This role demands the highest level of professionalism while meeting client needs and maintaining a commitment to achieving 100% uptime across all engineering operations. The position focuses on protecting and improving client asset value by ensuring building engineering systems continue to perform their intended functions through reliable maintenance practices. The Chief Engineer implements and manages reliability-based maintenance functions, executes equipment inspection and monitoring programs, and defines maintenance best practices to improve mechanical equipment uptime. The role requires continuous evaluation of current maintenance, operations, and reliability methods, implementing strategic changes to enhance effectiveness and maximize value-driven performance outcomes.

  • Oversee all building systems maintenance and operations while supervising engineers and maintenance staff.
  • Participate in client communications, property meetings, budget processes, and capital improvement planning.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, respond to emergencies, and conduct weekly inspections.
  • Manage CMMS and building automation systems for optimal performance.
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and building surfaces.
  • Monitor automation systems and respond to alarms.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and ensure exceptional tenant service.
  • Ensure compliance with procurement policies and safety regulations.
  • Implement safety training programs and maintain infrastructure documentation.
  • Seven or more years of comprehensive facility-related work experience.
  • Expertise in customer service delivery and leadership capabilities.
  • Hands-on supervisory experience managing teams and operations.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of maintenance processes and construction planning.
  • Technical proficiency in HVAC systems, fluid handling, and electrical systems engineering.
  • Strong computer literacy, including knowledge of Microsoft Office and CMMS.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience operating within classified and controlled access environments.
  • Flexibility to provide overtime and after-hours support.
  • Associate's Degree in an Engineering discipline.
  • Universal Technician for CFC's (or within 90 days of employment).
  • Operating Engineers license (SMA) or equivalent.
