About The Position

The Chief Engineer directs all aspects of engineering operations, including emergency programs, energy management, asset protection, preventive maintenance, and repairs to equipment, structures, and grounds. Directs the Engineering staff, accounting/budgeting, asset protection, and inventory control. The Chief Engineer directs improvements in revenues and profit margins while maintaining quality. Ensuring all operations are in alignment with the direction of the General Manager, the Company, brand standards, and local, state, and national regulations. The Hotel operates 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, so operational demands require variations in shift days, starting times, and hours worked in a week.

Requirements

  • Five or more years of related experience in building management/engineering in the hospitality industry (preferred).
  • A substantial and successful track record in profitable Engineering management while maintaining integrity and professional standards.
  • Minimum of three years of managerial skills, involving frequent decisions, meeting deadlines, and negotiating contracts with vendors.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Outlook, Excel, and Word.

Responsibilities

  • Direct all facets of Engineering operations.
  • Stay informed about brand standards and competition's products to enhance revenues and profit margins.
  • Provide leadership to assist the General Manager in positioning the hotel as a market leader.
  • Walk the property daily to identify issues and communicate with associates.
  • Ensure preventative maintenance programs are in place and maintenance-related problems are addressed promptly.
  • Inspect and evaluate the condition of Engineering areas, equipment, and inventories.
  • Coordinate activities with local and federal law enforcement, fire companies, and insurance agencies.
  • Generate cost comparisons and solicit bids/proposals as needed.
  • Ensure all required licenses, permits, contracts, insurance, and inspections are in order.
  • Submit all corporate, divisional, and governmental reports required.
  • Direct all emergency programs, including staff training and compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Promote an accident prevention program to minimize liabilities and related expenses.
  • Ensure staff proficiency in sanitary, safety, security, and emergency procedures.
  • Notify the General Manager of potential liabilities and propose actions to prevent them.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled meetings with the Engineering staff and provide organizational information.
  • Conduct performance evaluations for the engineering staff.
