About The Position

The Chief Engineer is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and repair of the hotel’s physical facilities and systems. This leadership role ensures that all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and life-safety equipment is properly maintained while upholding Hampton Inn and Hilton brand standards. The Chief Engineer manages the engineering team, coordinates preventive maintenance programs, and supports the delivery of an exceptional guest experience through a safe and well-maintained property.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or degree in engineering, facilities management, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of hotel or building engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with OSHA standards and local building codes.
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies on a 24/7 basis when required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical activities such as climbing, bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and participate in the maintenance and repair of all building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and life-safety equipment.
  • Implement and oversee preventive maintenance schedules to reduce downtime and prolong the life of hotel assets.
  • Conduct regular inspections of guestrooms, public areas, and back-of-house facilities to ensure safety, cleanliness, and compliance with brand standards.
  • Manage, train, and evaluate the engineering and maintenance team.
  • Assign daily tasks and ensure timely completion of work orders and projects.
  • Foster a positive and safe work environment, ensuring compliance with all workplace safety standards.
  • Monitor and control departmental budgets, expenses, and capital improvement projects.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of supplies, tools, and replacement parts.
  • Review and approve vendor contracts and service agreements as needed.
  • Ensure the hotel complies with all federal, state, and local codes, including fire, health, and safety regulations.
  • Oversee inspections, testing, and maintenance of fire alarm, sprinkler, and emergency systems.
  • Ensure staff follows all safety procedures and maintains required certifications.
  • Respond promptly to guest and staff service requests related to maintenance issues.
  • Work closely with the General Manager and department heads to support hotel operations.
  • Lead emergency response efforts during property crises or equipment failures.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee capital improvement projects and renovations.
  • Collaborate with corporate and ownership teams on property upgrades and system installations.
