About The Position

You know what it’s like to work in a hotel, otherwise you would not be reading this You LOVE people and LOVE to take care of them, right?  Keep reading.   Your mission is to keep the hotel in like-new condition.  You do not accept scuffed walls, chipped furniture, sloppy caulking, frayed carpet, running toilets, drippy faucets, leaky pipes, whiny motors, loose belts, etc. You are 100% in charge of your people, the condition of the hotel, and 100% accountable. Improve product/services/employee & guest satisfaction while reducing cost – who said this was an easy job?   Focus on People, Product, Profit – in that order.   Let’s see how many tasks we come up with; feel free to add, because we probably forgot some.  Recruit, interview, training, double/triple/spot checking quality/quantity of work, inspect in detail at least 5 rooms and one public area per day, walk entire building daily, in the trenches with your team, manage vendors, available to work any day/any shift (especially weekends/holidays), answering a million questions, capitalize on Marriott resources,  plan fun employee events, investigate stuff, coach, mentor, discipline, terminate, analyze, paperwork, inventories, console, emphasize, cheerlead (pom poms optional), performance reviews, scheduling, payroll, purchasing, invoices, regulatory things (we are so glad there are only city, county, state, and federal jurisdictions to consider), herding cats, community service.  You get the idea.   Hybrid-type role covering hands-on involvement and office work responsibilities Ensure our people have the best work experience possible.  They count on you to be LOVED.

Requirements

  • Background must include:  2+ years of experience as a Maintenance Department Head in a 300+ room/unit full-service hotel/cruise ship/apartment building OR Assistant Maintenance Department Head in a 400+ room/unit full-service hotel/cruise ship/apartment building OR any size luxury hotel/cruise ship (Ritz-Carlton, Four Seasons, Waldorf Astoria, or equivalent)
  • Grade IV Boiler Operator License (required within 6 months of employment)
  • City of Seattle Refrigeration Operating Engineer License (required to start certification within 9 months of employment)
  • EPA CFC Universal Certificate (required within 1-year of employment)
  • EL06A (HVAC/Refrigeration System) or EL07 (Non-residential Maintenance) Washington State Electrician Specialty License (required within 2-years of employment)
  • Qualified Person under the Washington Clean Buildings Performance Standard – CBPS (required within 3-years of employment)

Responsibilities
