About The Position

The Chief Engineer manages all engineering/maintenance operations, including maintaining the building, grounds, and physical plant with particular attention towards safety, security, and asset protection.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of progressive management experience in a luxury hotel preferred.
  • Knowledge of carpentry, plumbing and electrical, required.
  • Knowledge of hotel fire standards and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise judgment to resolve personnel and production concerns that arise, with minimal supervision.
  • Possess outstanding guest services skills and leadership capability.
  • High school diploma or GED; 4 years experience in the engineering and maintenance or related professional area; technical training in HVAC-R/electrical/plumbing.
  • OR 2-year degree from an accredited university in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or related major; 2 years experience in the engineering and maintenance or related professional area; technical training in HVAC-R/ electrical/plumbing.
  • Ability to communicate in the English language.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Able to work flexible schedules including holidays and weekends and able to perform multiple tasks.
  • Experience using software programs such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Able to work with and understand financial information and data, and basic arithmetic functions.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be physically fit to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects and push carts weighing 100 pounds or more.
  • Requires standing/walking/reaching and bending throughout shift.

Nice To Haves

  • Second language is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises Engineering day-to-day operations in the absence of the Director of Engineering.
  • Manage Property Operations and Engineering budgets, capital expenditure projects, preventative maintenance, and energy conservation.
  • Assists in managing the physical plant including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, electrical and life safety systems.
  • Maintains and operates equipment at optimum effectiveness, efficiency, and safety.
  • Establishes and manages an effective rooms maintenance program.
  • Ensures compliance with all Engineering departmental policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Manages department's controllable expenses to achieve or exceed budgeted goals.
  • Select, order, or purchase new equipment, supplies, and furnishings.
  • Inspect and evaluate the physical condition of facilities to determine the type of work required.
  • Recommend or arrange for additional services such as painting, repair work, renovations, and the replacement of furnishings and equipment.
  • Assists in effectively planning, scheduling, and evaluating preventative maintenance programs.
  • Assist in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring Associates; conduct performance appraisals, coach and counsel, progressive corrective action, motivate, develop, and train.
  • Ensure Associates receive on-going training to understand their job tasks and guest expectations.
  • Ensure all daily rehearsal meetings are conducted.
  • Ensures on-going communication occurs in all areas of responsibility to create awareness of business objectives, awareness of expectations and recognition of exemplary performance.
  • Provides feedback to associates based on observation of service behaviors.
  • Supervises associate's ability to execute departmental and property emergency procedures.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties as required by management.
