About The Position

EMCOR Government Services is seeking a Chief Engineer in College Park, MD to provide operations and maintenance support for the National Archives Building in College Park MD. The position will also regularly interface with staff and support operations for the National Archives Building in Washington, DC (NARA I). Intermittent travel between both locations should be expected to facilitate cross—training and continuity of operations. This position will be covered by the CBA for Local 99 and will report directly to the Operations Manager. #EGS #LI-NS1

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid 1st Class Steam Engineer License issued by District of Columbia or Maryland.
  • Possess skill and knowledge in HVAC systems
  • Have the ability to perform preventive maintenance on all operational and mechanical equipment
  • Have knowledge to operate related electrical equipment and machinery.
  • Must fluently speak, read and write the English language

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and directs work to subordinate Local 99 Lead Operating Engineers, Operating Engineers, and other trades and/or other shops/subcontractors, as assigned by Operations Management. Must ensure deadlines are met and staff is productive.
  • Receives, schedules/assigns, monitors, and reports service calls and maintenance
  • Responsible for supervision and technical guidance for day-to-day activities of operations and maintenance with the trades and engineering.
  • Oversees critical equipment, including but not limited to central plants.
  • Performs asset/equipment inspections, recommends improvements per industry standards, develops project estimates for IDIQ work. Proposing operational changes to improve efficient use of the facilities equipment.
  • Be available and flexible to supervise, on-site 24/7/365 critical operations.
  • Performing duties associated with the operation, maintenance, and repair of refrigeration and air-conditioning and heating equipment
  • Providing technical support in the efficient and safe operation and maintenance of all mechanical equipment, reports recommendations and work accomplished to management.
  • Making adjustments and minor repairs to mechanical and electrical equipment and component parts of heating and air-conditioning systems and auxiliary support equipment
  • Making physical inspections of equipment and tests equipment for correct operation of all components of the refrigeration cycle and other relevant factors contributing to the proper and efficient operation of HVAC systems
  • Answering occupants’ complaints relating to HVAC and trades. Address complaints and resolve problems that arise, with a creative and solution-oriented approach.
  • Develops procedures/checklists, trains, and enforces standards, as required.
  • Install, operate, maintain, inspect, adjust and repair building equipment such as chillers, air handlers, cooling towers, fans, pumps, motors, drives, filters, plumbing fixtures, induction units, VAV boxes, building control systems, lighting control systems, fire alarm and fire suppression systems, dampers, meters, gauges, actuators, and related equipment.
  • Troubleshoot faults or problems in equipment and distribution systems using test equipment and guide others in doing so.
  • Use and interpret blueprints, drawings, manuals, schematics, or other specifications to plan work on and/or troubleshoot building systems and components.
  • Sends management detailed reports related to all operations and maintenance.
  • Interviews and recommend qualified personnel for open positions.
  • Ensure staff members follow general accepted professional practices, including but not limited to – administrative procedures, company policies, CBAs, customer relations and engineering protocol.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to lead, coach, and professionally develop others.
  • Responds to special taskings from Management.
  • Provide professional, courteous customer service and communications to all personnel and building occupants.
  • Provide QA/QC of maintenance, repairs, and project work and perform final punch lists with NARA personnel.
  • Must be proficient in using technology including Microsoft products and CMMS.
  • All other duties as assigned.
