Follow Trident on the Web at www.tridentseafoods.com or on social media on Facebook , Twitter , Instagram , Pinterest , YouTube or LinkedIn Directs and oversees the activities of the engine room regarding the mechanical operations, repair and maintenance functions for the vessel by performing the following duties personally: Essential Functions: Directs and oversees the functionality and safety of the vessel’s engines, boilers, deck machinery, electrical, hydraulic, refrigeration and sanitary systems in accordance with Trident policy and local, state and federal laws and regulations. Oversees and establishes the performance and operation standards for all vessel systems. Resolves problems using solutions that involve appropriate techniques, technologies, or concepts. Must be able to give specific directions in the case of an emergency. Can include launching a raft, donning an immersion suit or life preserver, assist in a response to fire or flooding. Directs and oversees required documentation for energy management, conservations and preventative maintenance programs. Confers with Captain and management to determine engineering feasibility and cost effectiveness of present or future projects. Oversees the design and implementation of training to ensure that all vessel engineering start are properly trained, qualified and in compliance with regulatory training and/or regulatory certification requirements. Advises management of new developments which may affect profit, schedule, costs, and/or inter-departmental relations. Maintains a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner. Additional Responsibilities: Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned.

Requirements

  • Appropriate licenses/permits of trade (e.g., CG license of appropriate horsepower. STCW endorsement, etc.) when required.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of email, spreadsheet software, word processing software and presentation software.
  • Subject to random selection drug screens as required by USCG.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years as Engineer of a fishing boat in the fishery being applied for.
  • Five plus years as a deckhand on a fishing boat in the fishery being applied for.
  • Intermediate engineering knowledge.
  • Advanced firefighting skills.
  • Current First Aid and CPR cards.
  • Net repair skills.
  • Clean vessel safety record.
  • Familiarity of all state and federal requirements/regulations for the fishery being applied for.
  • Familiarity with pollution abatement procedures.
  • Basic HR awareness and training.
