About The Position

The Chief Engineer – LB, JL, JT, R7P, WL Driveline responsibilities include but not limited to: Responsible for technical oversight of all aspects of the Axle/Driveline/AWD/4WD systems Charger, Challenger, Wrangler, Gladiator, Grand Cherokee Driveline which includes vehicle platform / families (hardware, software, calibration, packaging, builds, validation, ED&D, DVPR, Statement of Work, Design Change Requests, etc) Define and ensure Global Technical Targets (Performance, Fuel Economy, NVH, Mass, DMC) are established and met while complying with regulatory requirements, vehicle packaging and manufacturing constraints  Accountable for Driveline System Definition, Development, Validation, Competitiveness, Quality and Driveline System Technical roadmap  Support and ensure technical infrastructure includes Technical Specifications (TS), Engineering Best Practice (E-BP), Lessons Learned (LL), DFMEA templates, Trade off Studies (TOS), standard DVP&R templates and other standard work tools Responsible for meeting or exceeding program technical requirements and functional objectives of the driveline system (i.e. cost, timing, FE objectives, efficiency, performance, emissions, durability, mass, NVH, and Quality metrics - CQI, 3MIS, EPUS, JD Power)   Identify requirements and develop cross-functional department information/data to take technical decisions in the appropriate forum to meet functional objectives within program scope Recognized as single point leadership contact for all engineering interfaces (for Axle / Driveline/AWD/4WD systems) for assigned vehicle families including but not limited to Vehicle & Propulsion System Integration, Chassis/Brakes, EE Core, ePT, Controls, Calibration, AME, Purchasing, Quality, and Supply Operations Reviews & approves all Trade-off Studies (TOS).  Empowered to make executive decisions on engineering direction for projects and programs Leads coordination with Vehicle/Powertrain Team on initial Packaging studies (DSE or Application Engineer as delegates)  Develops and maintains the Technical Roadmaps, and Strategic Functional Groups which includes SWOT analysis and benchmarking activity to ensure industry competitiveness of the driveline system for mass, efficiency, NVH, shift quality, etc Promotes Intellectual property development (patents, NDAs, EBPs, etc. ) as a result of product innovation  Supports Purchasing, Supplier Quality, and Engineering in the Source Package planning.  Ensures cost, quality and engineering assessments are used to drive best supplier selections   Overall Owner of “Improvement List” to address JD Power, CQI & 3MIS issues    Empowered to work directly with CoE Managers, Technical Specialist & DREs on programs and project assignments  Build best team, develop leaders and complete succession planning  Engineering budget: establish and meet targets for ED&D (i.e. FTE, Supplier ED&D, Parts, Purchased Services, etc) Manage Driveline System lifecycle, including Quality Improvement activities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related degree field
  • Minimum 10 years of engineering experience in transmission and/or driveline design, releasing, development, validation, calibration, manufacturing, program management, etc.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outllook, etc.)

  • Master's degree in engineering field or MBA
