About The Position

The Chief Engineer for Aerospace Electrical Protection serves as the technical authority for the design, development, qualification, and lifecycle management of aerospace electrical protection technologies, including contactors, fuses, circuit breakers, isolation monitoring, and related electrical power distribution and protection hardware. This role ensures that all products meet the highest standards of safety, reliability, performance, and regulatory compliance across commercial aviation, defense, and emerging aerospace and defense markets such as UAVs, eVTOLs, hybrid‑electric propulsion systems, and ground & maritime defense vehicles. The Chief Engineer provides strategic technical leadership, influences product roadmaps, mentors engineering teams, and engages with customers, regulatory bodies, and industry partners to advance the organization’s electrical protection portfolio.

Requirements

  • A university degree required (i.e. Bachelors degree) or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Must be a team player able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands

Responsibilities

  • Oversees engineering fundamentals and org to make sound decisions on complex technical issues
  • Competitive analysis (benchmarking patent research, cost estimates etc.)
  • Strongly influence design for manufacturability
  • Detailed understanding of market and implications for business
  • Proactively challenge and drives the organization to deliver improved quality and performance related to engineering design
  • Maintain product documentation (drawings and specifications)
  • Direct interaction with customers to solicit product specifications requirements, schedule expectations and budget
  • Manages research and welding characterization processes
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials, mechanics, fluid, thermo and heat transfer
  • Advanced knowledge of basic electrical circuits, microelectronic assembly, statistical methods, process control fundamentals and product test processes
  • Familiarity with manufacturing methods – welding, brazing, soldering, adhesive bonding, machining, stamping, molding and forming. Basic knowledge of core manufacturing processes
  • Serve as the chief technical decision maker for electrical protection products and architectures for aerospace and defense.
  • Influence long-term technology strategy, product evolution, and innovation roadmaps for power switching, protection, and power distribution products.
  • Establish engineering standards, validation methodologies, and design practices for products used in low- and high-voltage DC, AC, and hybrid electrical systems in aerospace and defense applications.
  • Guide the end-to-end development of contactors, circuit breakers, fuses, and related power distribution hardware.
  • Represent the company as the technical voice in customer design reviews, certification discussions, and industry forums.
  • Work closely with Programs, Quality, Supply Chain, and Operations to ensure seamless product development and ramp-up.
  • Mentor engineering teams in design principles, electromechanical actuation, materials, arc suppression, coil design, and thermal considerations.
  • Enhance organizational capabilities through talent development, technical training, and engineering process improvements.
