The Chief Engineer of Broadcast and Network Systems at Auburn University is a leadership role focused on managing and optimizing broadcast operations for live sports production. This position combines technical expertise in IT and broadcast networks with team leadership to drive innovation and excellence in Auburn's premier broadcast operations.

  • Oversee operations of broadcast and network systems of video production facility.
  • Design and implement technical systems to meet the needs of War Eagle Productions, including communication equipment and audio/video upgrades.
  • Maintain and design complex fiber optic networks for data and digital video signal transmission.
  • Set up intercom systems and enterprise-class video and audio routing for live productions.
  • Forecast video system demands and recommend upgrades, expansion, and reconfiguration.
  • Support, maintain, and troubleshoot technical workflows including transcoding and live streaming.
  • Perform maintenance and upgrades on broadcast facility equipment including switchers and intercom systems.
  • Act as internal project manager for maintenance and new installations, developing installation plans and configuring equipment.
  • Document standards and operating procedures for video editing systems and act as a technical resource for staff.
  • Lead engineering team, develop project plans, and assign tasks to team members.
  • Manage production of live events according to required standards and protocols, supervising staff in various production roles.
  • Assist with budget development by researching new technologies and managing equipment budget for maintenance and projects.
  • Hire and train students and temporary employees to ensure competency in their roles.
  • Work with the business office for procurement and vendor vetting.
  • Comply with NCAA and SEC regulations in job performance.
  • High school diploma and 9 years of experience OR
  • Associate's degree and 7 years of experience OR
  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years of experience OR
  • Master's degree and 3 years of experience in Engineering, Communications, Radio Television and Film, Broadcast Journalism, or related field.
  • Experience in television, network systems, or video production services.
  • Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE) certification upon hire.
  • Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) certification upon hire.
