About The Position

The Chief Dosimetrist at Mount Sinai Medical Center is responsible for designing and implementing treatment plans for patients undergoing radiation therapy. This role involves utilizing advanced imaging techniques and collaborating with radiation oncologists and therapists to ensure optimal patient care. The Chief Dosimetrist also supervises the dosimetry team, provides technical support, and participates in clinical research and education.

Requirements

  • Certified by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB).
  • Currently licensed in the state of Florida as RT (T) is preferred.
  • Master's Degree in Medical Dosimetry from a JCERT accredited program.
  • Minimum of 5 years of simulation and treatment experience as a Registered Technologist in Radiation Therapy (RT(T)) is preferred.
  • Three years of clinical Medical Dosimetry experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design a treatment plan using computer and/or manual computation to deliver prescribed radiation doses while sparing critical structures.
  • Identify and contour normal and dose-limiting structures using images from various data sets, including CT, MRI, and PET.
  • Create and transfer reference images and localization markers for treatment delivery.
  • Supervise and assist in simulations and tumor localization using imaging devices.
  • Plan and implement the fabrication of compensation filters, custom shields, and other beam modifying devices.
  • Supervise the production of molds, casts, and other immobilization devices.
  • Communicate with radiation therapists to implement treatment plans effectively.
  • Perform calculations for accurate dose delivery and document all pertinent information in patient records.
  • Assist the Medical Physicist in radiation safety, quality assurance, and treatment plan evaluations.
  • Operate and perform quality assurance on treatment planning computers under the direction of the Medical Physicist.
  • Assist in brachytherapy procedures and manage radioactive materials as needed.
  • Utilize radiation monitoring devices to measure radioactivity and perform assays.
  • Teach medical dosimetry to students and staff as delegated.
  • Participate in clinical research and continuing education to maintain certifications.
  • Assist in the implementation and revision of dosimetry policies and procedures.
  • Be available for consultation regarding treatment methods and planning.
