About The Position

Scottsdale Arts is looking for a dynamic Chief Development Officer (CDO) to lead our fundraising efforts with creativity, strategy, and purpose. The CDO will work closely with the CEO, senior leadership, and the Board to shape a development strategy that supports Scottsdale Arts' mission and future. This role involves driving major gifts, leading a high-performing team, and managing a growing portfolio of fundraising programs, from individual giving and membership to corporate sponsorships and special events.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field; additional education or training in the field is preferred.
  • Minimum 10-12 years' experience of senior-level development leadership experience.
  • Proven track record of identifying, cultivating, securing, and stewarding major donor relationships.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize the work of a team to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities with an initiative-driven method of work production.
  • Ability to analyze, read, and interpret standard financial reports and legal documents.
  • Experience managing and overseeing complex budgets.
  • Exceptional computer skills with experience in a fundraising database.
  • Enthusiasm for the arts and ability to articulate their value.

Responsibilities

  • Articulate and implement a fundraising vision and strategy that supports Scottsdale Arts' mission and goals in collaboration with the President/CEO.
  • Support and advise the President/CEO to engage and leverage their involvement in fundraising.
  • Engage Scottsdale Arts Board of Trustees and Advisory Committees in fundraising activities.
  • Establish and manage the division budget and ensure fiscal compliance.
  • Communicate and report goal results, fiscal operations, and key performance indicators.
  • Manage the development team and oversee personnel functions.
  • Work with senior management for strategy development and execution planning.
  • Set, maintain, and promote a positive culture of inclusiveness and performance.
  • Establish and achieve an annual fundraising goal with clear objectives.
  • Design, implement, manage, and evaluate a comprehensive fundraising program.
  • Develop Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for development staff.
  • Provide counsel and guidance in fund development principles and best practices.
  • Strategically manage the portfolio of major donors and prospects.
  • Install appropriate fundraising support processes and systems.
  • Contribute to the development of content for development publications.
  • Oversee special event planning and implementation.
  • Create a collaborative team environment around fundraising.
  • Perform other duties as required.
