About The Position

The Chief Development Officer (CDO) leads the strategic direction and execution of all fundraising, development, and partnership efforts for Choices for People. Reporting directly to the CEO, this position oversees donor relations, major gifts, grants, marketing, and community engagement to advance the organization’s mission of supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The CDO manages a small team, including marketing and event staff, and collaborates across departments to strengthen financial sustainability, enhance public awareness, and build lasting relationships with key stakeholders and supporters.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience required in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Communications, or related field; Master’s preferred.
  • 8-10 years of progressive fundraising/development experience preferred, including at least 3 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Proven track record of successful major gift solicitations, event fundraising, grants, and donor engagement.
  • Strong leadership experience with direct reports and managing cross-functional teams/contractors.
  • Excellent relationship-building, communication (written/verbal), presentation, and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to work remotely/hybrid, travel as needed within the region, and engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficient in donor database systems, fundraising technologies, analytics, and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to move and stand for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to kneel, stand, sit, crawl, crouch, reach, or climb as needed.
  • As a requirement of this position, you will be periodically subject to criminal background checks, drug and/or alcohol screenings, and motor vehicle records checks.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with IDD services or experience with nonprofit organizations serving individuals with disabilities is highly preferred.
