About The Position

Republic Bank of Chicago is seeking a strategic and experienced Chief Credit Officer to lead and oversee the Bank’s commercial credit function. This role is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the Bank’s credit culture and ensuring sound risk management across all lending activities. The CCO will oversee credit administration and analyst functions for Commercial Real Estate (CRE) and Commercial & Industrial (C&I) lending teams, as well as construction loan administration, commercial loan documentation, and managed assets/workouts. This position plays a critical role in supporting sustainable growth while safeguarding the Bank’s portfolio quality and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a senior credit leadership role within the banking industry, with at least 10 years in commercial credit and portfolio management.
  • Strong knowledge of CRE and C&I lending, construction loan administration, and regulatory compliance, or related focus areas.
  • Visionary leader with a track record of developing high-performing credit teams.
  • A desire to focus on the development and mentorship of individuals who are in different stages of their professional careers.
  • Exceptional analytical, strategic thinking, and decision-making skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; MBA or Commercial Lending accreditations a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive credit risk framework aligned with the Bank’s strategic goals and risk appetite.
  • Ensure consistent, high-quality credit analysis and loan structuring across all commercial portfolios.
  • Oversee monitoring and administration of construction loans, including draw schedules and project progress reviews.
  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of commercial loan documentation in compliance with regulatory and internal standards.
  • Direct strategies and reporting for delinquent loans, charge-offs, and recoveries, including workout plans and resolution efforts.
  • Collaborate with Bank Ownership and Lending Leadership to support business development while maintaining prudent credit practices.
  • Identify and advise executive leadership and the board on credit-related matters and impacting growth and profitability.
  • Serve as a valued member of the Executive Committee, sharing functional expertise and guidance on decision-making issues affecting the bank.
  • Lead other additional and interesting bank-wide projects and duties as assigned.
