About The Position

The Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) is seeking a Chief Building Maintenance Sect to be a part of one of the most highly regarded park systems in the country. With more than 25,000 acres of parkland, nine Rec Centers, eight golf courses, three lakefront parks, and more, FCPA is an exciting organization to be a part of and there are many opportunities for staff to make a difference at every level. Under the direction of the Assistant Supervisor of Facility Support, assists in the planning and directing of the maintenance activities for all Park Authority buildings. Supervises, participates, and administers the work of skilled tradesmen engaged in maintenance services to include work performed by others. Develops specifications and schedules for the maintenance of buildings and their assets. Types of buildings include golf course club houses, historic structures, maintenance shops, visitor centers, equestrian centers, and nature centers. Ability to document by means of memorandum and letters in recognition of employee's job performance, achievements, behaviors, and other related administrative matters and performs administrative functions in accordance with the requirements of Human Resources. Utilizes a computer in the execution of administrative and other work functions. Updates and utilizes the Asset Information Management System (AIMS).

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and materials of the major building trades;
  • Knowledge of administrative procedures;
  • Ability to plan, assign and direct the work of skilled tradesmen;
  • Ability to determine the time and cost estimates of materials and labor;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with the public and County officials.
  • Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to: High school graduation or a GED issued by a state department of education, plus three years of experience in building maintenance and repair.
  • Driver's license (required)
  • The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, Child Protective Services Registry check, and a driver's license check to the satisfaction of the employer.
  • Ability to walk, negotiate or traverse property sites that may be undergoing construction or having terrain that is not level.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to coordinate and collaborate with staff, managers and supervisors on the prioritization on the repair effort.
  • Experience supervising employees.
  • Experience monitoring and maintaining inventory of tools, parts and materials to ensure adequate stock levels.
  • Ability to read and interpret manufacturers drawings.
  • Experience overseeing and managing preventative and/or corrective repairs in the most efficient manner to reduce equipment downtime.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in planning and directing the maintenance, repair and cleaning of County buildings, grounds and related equipment;
  • Supervises and participates in the work of skilled tradesmen engaged in carpentry, painting, electrical work and other maintenance services;
  • Requisitions materials and equipment;
  • Assists with the inspection of County facilities;
  • Estimates cost of repairs;
  • Assists the director with budget planning;
  • Checks employee timecards and leave records;
  • Acts for the director in all phases of the maintenance operation during absence;
  • Attends meetings and conferences;
  • Prepares reports and correspondence.
