About The Position

The Chief Building Engineer is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of all building systems for two buildings in the Orlando area. This role ensures mission-critical systems operate at peak performance, supports specialized tenant requirements, and delivers an exceptional tenant experience through proactive service, communication, and leadership.

Requirements

  • Five (5) or more years of experience as a building engineer or chief engineer in Class A office, laboratory, research, or mission-critical facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting technically complex facilities.
  • Three (3) or more years of hands-on experience with computerized Building Automation Systems (BAS), including interpreting trend data and adjusting system parameters.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience supervising and developing technical staff.
  • Exceptional tenant relations and customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and professionally.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel; experience using computerized maintenance management/work order systems.
  • Working knowledge of lease provisions and tenant responsibilities as they relate to building operations and maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and operating manuals.
  • Must be physically capable of climbing ladders, lifting equipment, bending, crouching, standing for extended periods, and performing hands-on maintenance work as required.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees all day-to-day operations and maintenance of the facilities, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, building automation systems, and specialty systems supporting aerospace research operations.
  • Supervises and mentors one on-site Building Engineer, providing daily direction, training, performance feedback, and ensuring coverage for all operational needs.
  • Acts as the primary technical point of contact for tenants, fostering strong tenant relationships through prompt communication, responsiveness, and a solutions-oriented approach.
  • Ensures tenant service requests are addressed quickly, thoroughly documented, and completed to a high standard to maintain tenant satisfaction and trust.
  • Maintains accurate work order documentation, including labor, materials, root cause analysis, and follow-up actions.
  • Coordinates and manages third-party vendors, contractors, and specialized service providers to ensure work is completed safely, on time, and in compliance with facility requirements.
  • Performs and oversees advanced troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs involving HVAC systems, electrical distribution, plumbing, controls, and mechanical systems.
  • Monitors, adjusts, and troubleshoots Building Automation Systems (BAS), including reviewing trend data, adjusting setpoints, and coordinating advanced repairs with BAS specialists.
  • Ensures compliance with all life safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements; documents inspections and ensures deficiencies are corrected promptly.
  • Develops, executes, and documents preventive maintenance programs for all building systems, including mission-critical equipment supporting research operations.
  • Supports tenant build-outs, specialized equipment installations, and after-hours work by coordinating access, reviewing scope, and ensuring building standards are maintained.
  • Assists with emergency preparedness, response, and recovery efforts, including serving in a leadership role during incidents.
  • Participates in capital projects, system upgrades, and long-term asset planning as assigned.
  • May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays to address emergencies or critical operational needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or necessary to ensure the success and reliability of facility operations.
