We are the proud facilitators of Girl Scout camp at five Indiana locations, conveners of thousands of Girl Scout programs with nearly 600 community partners and serve thousands more community members each year at our STEM Center of Excellence and Founders Lodge Event and Conference Center. What You Will Do: The Chief Advancement Officer reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and works in close partnership with the CEO, senior staff, and board to help the Girl Scouts of Central Indiana set the direction and ensure the organization’s longevity through a multifaceted strategy that advances the mission of Girl Scouts. In this role, the Chief Advancement Officer will lead a cohesive and strategically aligned Advancement Team—including fund development, marketing, and communications—to drive a unified vision that supports organizational priorities and sustains long-term revenue growth. The Chief Advancement Officer will be responsible for developing and implementing integrated strategies that strengthen donor relationships, diversify and expand fundraising capacity, elevate mission-aligned storytelling, and increase developed income through a balanced and sustainable mix of revenue streams. Using data-informed decision-making, you will monitor development activities, oversee performance, and maintain forward momentum across all advancement functions. The successful applicant will bring proven experience as a fundraiser and organizational leader, with at least 10 years of management experience in a nonprofit or similar environment. The Chief Advancement Officer must be a mission-driven, strategic thinker who excels at solving complex problems, leading teams, inspiring collaboration, and cultivating a culture of philanthropy. A passion for relationship-based fundraising and advancing the mission of Girl Scouting is essential. How You Will Succeed: Understands that council priorities are growing membership, stewarding the existing donor base, and cultivating new donors. Develop an annual goal that supports the cultivation of new donors. Implement an action plan that supports the cultivation of new donors. All employees of the Girl Scouts of Central Indiana are responsible not only to the position but also to the duties and responsibilities that all employees share.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Fundraising, Public Relations, Marketing, and related field.
  • At least 10 years of direct work experience in all facets of development, including but not limited to direct engagement with donors, individual gift solicitation, grant management, and other fund development functions.
  • Technical skills in fundraising, building relationships and solicitating major gifts, grant and proposal development, communications, and other transferable skills.
  • Ability to relate to people from a wide range of walks of life.
  • Excellent leadership skills and the capacity to generate enthusiasm within the Girl Scout constituency for fundraising and public relations activities.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and human relations skills.
  • Must hold or join upon hiring a Girl Scout membership and subscribe to the tenets of the Girl Scout Promise and Law.
  • Decision-making and human relations skills.
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects/ deadlines, working independently and managing time effectively.
  • Skill in budget development, management, and analysis.
  • Current valid driver’s license, proof of vehicle insurance, and vehicle availability.
  • Ability to travel from the GSCI office to sites within the council service area and program jurisdiction area.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends when needed.
  • Must complete and pass a criminal background check.

Responsibilities

  • Build and lead a cohesive, strategically aligned advancement team—including fund development, marketing, and communications—ensuring all functions operate under a unified vision and coordinated organizational strategy.
  • Lead the council’s overall fund development strategy in partnership with the CEO, senior staff, and board, and direct the Fund Development Team’s annual strategic plan.
  • Support the CEO in fundraising efforts, including engagement of their donor portfolio, while managing a personal portfolio of major gift prospects.
  • Design and continuously improve donor experience models and ensure relationship-based development practices that strengthen long-term engagement.
  • Expand and diversify fundraising capacity across individuals, events, foundations, and corporations, and lead implementation of campaigns, annual solicitations, events, and proposals.
  • Set annual fundraising goals, manage revenue and expense budgets, and establish performance metrics to monitor development activities and ensure adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Lead the advancement function’s integrated marketing and communications strategy to support programs, membership, retail, donor engagement, and ensure consistent mission-aligned storytelling grounded in the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration and help cultivate a council-wide culture of philanthropy aligned with organizational priorities.
