The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) is seeking applicants for an Associate State School Superintendent (Working Title: Chief Accountability Officer) for our Deputy State Superintendent Office. The Chief Accountability Officer serves on the Executive Leadership team with the Department of Public Instruction and works in close coordination with the State Superintendent, Deputy State Superintendent, and senior leadership team. The Chief Accountability Officer leads and partners with relevant stakeholders to develop and advance practices, programs, and research to improve North Carolina's public schools. The Chief Accountability Officer shall place a particular emphasis on building partnerships to enhance NCDPI's use of research and promising practices to inform the work of Public School Units. The Chief Accountability Officer is responsible for overseeing the management and vision for testing and accountability at NCDPI including the Office of Accountability and Testing and the Office of Research and Promising Practices. The Chief Accountability Officer is accountable to ensure that North Carolina law and the rules and regulations of the State Board of Education are properly implemented. The Chief will lead NCDPI testing, accountability, and research programs by guiding internal resource allocation, ensuring coordination with other offices within NCDPI and providing administrative governance to the program areas of the department at the direction of the State Superintendent. The Chief Accountability Officer will advise and make frequent presentations to the North Carolina State Board of Education and may represent NCDPI on pertinent issues to local education agencies, the General Assembly, and other governmental entities.
