About The Position

Farnsworth Group is seeking a Chicago Bridge Team Lead in the posting locations below. In this role, you will be the key individual responsible to lead a client focused, technically excellent Transportation Structural Engineering team that serves local and nationwide clients in the support of multiple design projects. Posting Locations: Chicago, Lisle, or Tinley Park, IL What You’ll Do: Serve as the Bridge Team Lead in the Chicagoland area to manage and lead the Junior Transportation Structural Team staff. Serve as the Engineer-of-Record, including leading/performing designs for various complex, advanced-typical and typical bridge design projects. Perform and/or supervise all structural tasks, including, but not limited to, planning, analysis, and design for all structural aspects of transportation projects. Technical supervision and management of junior bridge staff on design projects that include, but are not limited to, steel plate girders, prestressed concrete, reinforced concrete, substructures, foundations, box culverts, and retaining walls for highway and railway bridge projects. Serve as client and project manager (communications, scope, schedule, budget, and quality) on bridge-related projects and supervise other project managers and project engineers in the performance of engineering tasks. Provide QC/QA related to bridge and infrastructure-related structural design. Assist in the preparation of project proposals.

Requirements

  • B.S in Civil Engineering with a focus in Structural Engineering.
  • Illinois Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and ability to obtain reciprocity in other states.
  • 8 - 15 years of bridge engineering experience including experience with IDOT categorized Complex , Advanced - Typical and Typical structures, Pedestrian, and railroad bridges
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable codes and standards that govern the discipline.
  • Advanced knowledge of software appropriate for the discipline, showing proficiency in most programs specific to this role/discipline.
  • Experience in MicroStation is required; experience in 3D bridge modeling is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, communication skills and ability to work with various teams.
  • Project management and Client Management skills and experience.
  • Strong communications skills and willingness to work in a team environment.
  • Experience working with IDOT and/or Tollway Facility Bridge projects as well as local agencies.

Nice To Haves

  • M.S in Civil/Structural Engineering
  • Illinois Licensed Structural Engineer (SE) or the ability to obtain one in 1 year.
  • Familiarity with engineering software packages such as: MicroStation, OpenBridge Designer Connect Edition (LEAP Bridge Steel, LEAP Bridge Concrete, RM Bridge, etc.), Sap2000, CSI Bridge LPile, Erikkson Culvert, AASHTOWare BrR, RISA-3D, SPW911, Mathcad/Mathcad Prime, Enercalc, BlueBeam, or other Finite-Element or Foundation analysis/design software
