About The Position

Responsibilities: Identifies physiological, psychological, social, and environmental variables affecting the functional status of the chemotherapy/infusion patient Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the various staged of adult and geriatric patients in the Chemotherapy/Infusion Suite Assesses, monitors, and treats patient response to antineoplastic and/or immunotherapy treatments and hematology/oncology related health problems Function effectively in an emergency and/or during an infusion/transfusion reaction Proactively intervenes to prevent complications Responsible for administering, monitoring, documenting, and evaluating interventions and treatments provided in the Chemotherapy/Infusion Suite and/or related to hematologic/oncologic related problems Interventions may include: Airway management/provision of BLS, appropriate use of AED, venipuncture, access and management of Port-A-Cath and PASport implanted devices as well as peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) devices, interpret laboratory values, transfusion of blood and blood components, and safe management of chemotherapy spills, 12 Lead electrocardiographic monitoring, tracheostomy care, gastrostomy/PEG tube care, indwelling and/or intermittent urinary catheterization, administration of high alert medications and/or immunotherapy and any other medications or treatments administered in the Chemotherapy/Infusion Suite Assumes responsibility for developing teaching plans based on individualized patient needs, discusses patient concerns, and answers questions relevant to care Plans and implement interventions that promote health, enhance patient stability, and prevent complications with the goal of achieving and maintaining optimal patient response Performs other treatments and diagnostic tests such as blood sugar testing and other tests required as part of patient treatment Demonstrates a working knowledge of immunotherapy and/or chemotherapy laboratory tests/results, medication, and/or drugs Medication management to include administration of chemotherapy/biotherapy agents in accordance with the Oncology Nursing Society guidelines, blood products, iron, antibiotics, and intravenous fluids Works closely with others on the Chemotherapy & Infusion team and participates in interdisciplinary team meetings Acts in adherence to standards of nursing care I accordance with ethical principles May be required to work with COVID 19 positive patients and Patients Under Investigation (PUI), for COVID 19

Requirements

  • At least a minimum of 2 years’ experience (must have worked within the last six months) performing immunotherapy and/or chemotherapy on patients in an Infusion Suite
  • Completion of the Oncology Nursing Society Fundamentals of Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Administration Course
  • Have a current license in at least one state, territory, or commonwealth in the US or the District of Columbia
  • Have current basic life support (BLS) certification by an American Health Association vendor

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) and competency requirements outlined in the Dimensions of Nursing Practice
