About The Position

CVP is seeking Chemotherapy Infusion Registered Nurses to provide specialized oncology nursing services for our Nation's Veterans at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Health Care System. You'll deliver comprehensive care to patients requiring immunotherapy and chemotherapy treatments in the Infusion Suite. As a Chemotherapy Infusion Registered Nurse, you will maintain accountability for coordination and delivery of care to patients requiring immunotherapy and chemotherapy within the Infusion Suite. You'll provide care based on American Nursing Association and Oncology Nursing Society standards while managing complex oncology treatments.

Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited school of professional nursing (ACEN, CCNE, or ANCC accredited)
  • Current RN license in any U.S. state, territory, or District of Columbia (full and unrestricted)
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience performing immunotherapy/chemotherapy on patients in an Infusion Suite
  • Must have worked within the last six (6) months in infusion/oncology settings
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association
  • Ability to speak, read, understand, and write English fluently
  • Computer literacy and ability to use VA electronic health record systems
  • Two-year direct patient care experience within the last three years in chemotherapy/infusion field
  • Knowledge of chemotherapy protocols, immunotherapy treatments, and oncology nursing practices
  • Experience with central line management, blood product administration, and emergency response in infusion settings
  • Understanding of oncology patient care across adult and geriatric populations

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or related field highly preferred; Master's degree in Nursing preferred
  • Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) certification preferred; minimum requirement is completion of Oncology Nursing Society Fundamentals of Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Administration Course

Responsibilities

  • Assess, monitor, and treat patient response to antineoplastic and immunotherapy treatments and hematology/oncology related health problems
  • Administer, monitor, document, and evaluate immunotherapy and chemotherapy interventions including venipuncture, Port-A-Cath and PICC device management
  • Manage airway/provide BLS, interpret laboratory values, transfusion of blood components, and safe management of chemotherapy spills
  • Review patient electronic/paper records for orders and administer IV/oral medications as prescribed per protocol
  • Develop individualized teaching plans, discuss patient concerns, and plan interventions to promote health and prevent complications
  • Perform diagnostic tests, demonstrate working knowledge of immunotherapy/chemotherapy laboratory results, and participate in interdisciplinary team meetings while working with COVID-19 positive patients as required
