About The Position

The Bishop’s School seeks engaging, collaborative, dynamic, and learner-centered teachers. We seek candidates who hold high expectations for students, design learning experiences that prioritize adolescent well-being and belonging, are enthusiastic about working on teams and are eager to pursue growth in their teaching practice. Our goals are to foster curiosity, encourage active student engagement, encourage collaboration in the classroom and direct students to take ownership of their learning. The Bishop’s School seeks a full-time C hemistry Teacher beginning August 2026 . The ideal candidate will have a background in teaching chemistry at the high school level, and will demonstrate interdisciplinary capacity with the ability to teach additional subjects within the department such as biology, environmental science, or biochemistry. The Science Department seeks candidates who are enthusiastic about working with teaching teams and other departmental colleagues to develop, iterate upon, and align lab-focused, inquiry-based, student-centered curricula throughout the Science Department. Bishop’s faculty communicate regularly with students, parents and administrators on student progress and are regularly expected to supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day and after school. In addition to teaching, faculty serve as advisors to students and offer daily office hours.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in chemistry or a related field
  • A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in high school chemistry
  • Experience teaching at the honors or AP level
  • Excellent chemistry content knowledge
  • Ability to integrate technology into instruction
  • Eagerness to collaborate with other department members in creating meaningful, relevant, learner-centered classroom experiences
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with students, parents, faculty, staff, administrators, and the broader school community
  • Strong work ethic, time management, verbal, written language, and interpersonal skills
  • Irrespective of own religious orientation, ability to support the School’s mission and values as a school founded in the Episcopal tradition
  • Commitment to well-being as the foundation for growth

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in chemistry or education (preferred)
  • Ability to teach biology in addition to chemistry (preferred)
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety standards and best practices
  • Interest in supporting current co-curricular programs
  • An unequivocal passion for working with adolescents and supporting them in all facets of their lives

Responsibilities

  • Teach three sections of chemistry (with a lab component), and a semester-length elective course
  • Meaningfully engage with students through advisory
  • Engage in co-curricular activities as assigned
  • Employ a variety of pedagogical approaches to teach students with an array of learning styles
  • Be available to students during office hours and at other times throughout the day to provide guidance and support as needed
  • Collaborate with departmental colleagues in the development of curriculum and meaningful, relevant, learner-centered classroom experiences
  • Provide timely communication to students and their parents/guardians relating to grading and current academic standing
