Job Summary: Location: Methodist Fremont Health Address: 450 East 23rd St. - Fremont, NE Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This is a salaried position. Assumes responsibility for the day-to-day operation of a laboratory section to include: maintaining regulatory compliance, completion and review of procedure manuals, instrument troubleshooting and maintenance, personnel utilization, supervision, training, and procedures. Assists the health care team in providing efficient and quality results in a caring environment.

Requirements

• Bachelors of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS), Medical Technology (MT) or a related field required.
• Minimum three years of laboratory testing experience required.
• Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required.
• Skill determining solutions.
• Skill with verbal and written communication.
• Skill using a computer and clinical software.
• Knowledge of medications and treatments used in patient care.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to work in a diverse environment.
• Ability to work as a team.
• Ability to keep patient information confidential.

• People - Supervise, educate, and motivate laboratory staff engaged in all levels of laboratory testing. Performance Management I: Ensures that performance appraisals are fair, objective and timely, as measured by completion on or before the due dates. When rating performance, considers each employees role and experience along with any circumstances that affected performance. Rates on the basis of fair and realistic expectations regarding both results expected and competencies demonstrated. Understands the competencies required by those being assessed and can describe gaps in clear and effective manner. Ensures that feedback is ongoing and that appraisal documentation is submitted for review for review on time. Staff Development: Ensure that staff members get a sufficient amount of orientation, training and developmental opportunities to maximize their chances of being successful in their assignments. Views training and development as an investment in employees and uses mentoring, cross-functional assignments, job rotation or other on-the-job learning opportunities to enhance the depth and breadth of skills and experience. Also encourages self development activities.
• Stewardship - Ensures & conserves Laboratory resources (equipment, supplies, staff) in order to provide patient results in an efficient, cost effective manner. Productivity: Meets or exceeds productivity standards that have been established for his or her organizational level or position. These may include labor productivity, other operational expense and revenue standards. Has successfully combined skills, ability and effort levels to ensure that expectations related to results/output are achieved. Resource Management: Gets the most out of facilities, equipment, materials, supplies and resource budgets. Ensures that financial and material resources are used effectively and efficiently and that appropriate steps are taken to minimize theft, damage or equipment breakdown. Ensures that recommended system checks, service and maintenance are performed on time. Works with facilities, purchasing, biomed and other internal departments before seeking external services. Obtains multiple quotes, reviews alternate options and/or negotiates for reduced prices prior to settling on one vendor, piece of equipment, price, etc. Leverages all resources to maximize utility and return on investment (ROI).
