About The Position

Minimum Qualifications To be eligible for this position, you must meet and provide evidence of the following minimum qualifications: 1. a Master’s degree in chemistry or organic chemistry (an approved comparable degree at MiraCosta College); OR 2. a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or biochemistry AND a Master’s degree in biochemistry, chemical engineering, chemical physics, physics, molecular biology, or geochemistry; OR 3. a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or one of the comparable degree titles listed in #2 above AND a Master’s degree in biochemistry, chemical engineering, chemical physics, physics, molecular biology, or geochemistry; OR 4. a valid California Community College teaching credential for chemistry; OR 5. the equivalent. Applicants who do not possess the EXACT degree major(s) required to meet the minimum qualifications must attach an equivalency narrative and supporting documentation at the time of application. Requirements

  • a Master’s degree in chemistry or organic chemistry (an approved comparable degree at MiraCosta College); OR

Nice To Haves

  • Strong academic preparation in chemistry.
  • Recent experience and demonstrated success in teaching college chemistry lecture and laboratory courses.
  • Experience and skill in developing innovative experiments for the undergraduate teaching laboratory, and in using teaching methodologies based on recent educational research.
  • Familiarity with and experience in using computers in education for data acquisition/reduction, as a teaching aid, and for accessing information.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple sections of a course.
  • Familiarity with or interest in distance education and online teaching and learning.
  • Commitment to examine, reflect, and modify instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support disproportionately impacted student populations with a goal of closing equity gaps (see Student Equity Plan ).
  • Ability to contribute to the mission of the college.
