We are seeking a highly motivated Chemist to support chemical, mechanical, and metallurgical testing of aerospace materials in a fast-paced, customer-driven laboratory environment. This role is critical to ensuring material compliance with industry and government standards and requires a strong technical foundation, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while collaborating across teams. The ideal candidate brings hands-on laboratory experience, strong analytical skills, and a customer-focused mindset to support manufacturing and engineering partners.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Chemistry, Metallurgy, Materials Science, or in a related field and a minimum 8 years prior relevant laboratory experience, or an Advanced Degree and minimum 5 years experience.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience and knowledge of MCL processes and procedures.
  • 5+ years of laboratory experience, with demonstrated proficiency in elemental analysis (ICP, ICP-MS, iSpark, GFAA, & XRF) or strong wet chemistry skills, including titrations and sample digestions.
  • Experience with laboratory and instrument software such as Bluehill 3, Syngistix, Qtegra, Oxsas, and WinLab.
  • Prior experience supporting manufacturing or production environments.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and computer skills.
  • Experience leading cross functional team projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to interface with customers and respond with urgency when required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform chemical, mechanical, and metallurgical analyses to evaluate aerospace materials for compliance with applicable specifications and standards.
  • Conduct elemental analysis using ICP, ICP-MS, GFAA, iSpark, and XRF, utilizing industry-standard calibration and analytical methods.
  • Perform gas detection using IR detectors on LECO analyzers (e.g., C/S, O/N/H).
  • Execute routine tank chemistry analysis using acid–base titrations.
  • Conduct physical and mechanical testing using Instron systems.
  • Perform fuels and oils analysis using a variety of instrumentations, including UV-Vis, calorimeter, viscometer, spectroil, and NMR.
  • Maintain accurate, clear, and concise laboratory documentation and reports.
  • Independently manage workload and prioritize testing activities to meet customer and production demands.
  • Interact professionally and effectively with internal and external customers at all levels.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to laboratory processes, safety, and efficiency.
