About The Position

The Chemist is responsible for delivering accurate, timely analysis in a fast-moving metallurgical R&D laboratory. This role owns ICP-OES and LECO C/S and O/N/H analysis from sample preparation through reporting, with a strong emphasis on data integrity, lab organization, and keeping analytical work moving without delays.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Materials Science, Metallurgy, or related field.
  • Practical experience with ICP-OES and LECO elemental analyzers (C/S and O/N/H).
  • Strong hands-on wet chemistry and sample preparation skills.
  • High attention to detail with a clear sense of ownership for data quality.
  • Comfortable working in a small, early-stage lab with minimal bureaucracy.
  • Self-directed, organized, and able to prioritize work without constant oversight.
  • Willing to handle routine tasks (prep, cleanup, inventory) as part of doing the job right.
  • Clear communicator who flags issues early rather than pushing questionable data.

Responsibilities

  • Perform elemental analysis using ICP-OES and LECO C/S and O/N/H instrumentation.
  • Prepare samples using appropriate chemical digestion, fusion, or combustion techniques.
  • Ensure timely turnaround of analytical results to support R&D and process development.
  • Review, validate, and report results clearly and accurately.
  • Maintain calibration standards, QC checks, and analytical documentation.
  • Troubleshoot preparation or analytical issues as they arise in an R&D environment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized laboratory and follow safe chemical handling and waste practices.
  • Track and maintain inventories of chemicals, consumables, standards, and gases to avoid downtime.
  • Support method development, refinement, and documentation as processes evolve.
