About The Position

The SOSF Chemist plays a crucial role in performing analytical testing of samples and maintaining laboratory equipment to support operations at the SOSF Laboratory. This position is essential for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and maintaining the reliability of electric service through the analysis of substation transformer conditions. The Chemist is responsible for providing technical advice, maintaining documentation, and supporting emergency situations, while also participating in industry organizations and aiding in laboratory management.

Requirements

  • Four-year college degree in Chemistry or a two-year college degree in Chemistry with a minimum of 4 years experience in analytical Chemistry, or a High School diploma or GED and 6 years experience in analytical Chemistry.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to effectively communicate to staff, peers, and Oncor Leadership.
  • Self-motivated with sound judgment and decision-making skills in the absence of supervision.
  • Organized with the ability to prioritize tasks and anticipate problems.
  • Dedication to personal safety and utilization of safe work practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in analytical programs (ex. OpenLab and Chemstation).
  • Working knowledge/experience in Gas Chromatography.

Responsibilities

  • Performs analytical testing of insulating oil and PCB samples.
  • Calibrates and maintains laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
  • Interacts with clients to provide technical advice on analytical needs and data interpretation.
  • Maintains necessary documentation to comply with regulatory requirements and good laboratory practices.
  • Provides after-hours support of clients' testing needs.
  • Ships out sampling supplies and receives samples.
  • Recognizes the properties and hazards of all chemicals used in the lab and ensures their safe handling and proper storage and disposal.
  • Provides backup support for lab data entry and reporting.
  • Demonstrates safe work practices.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned.
  • Maintains and operates the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and recommends upgrades to the system to effect greater efficiencies in laboratory operations.
  • Aids the SOSF Laboratory Manager in evaluating and selecting laboratory equipment and supplies to ensure effective, efficient, and economical laboratory operations.
  • Maintains and helps establish standard procedures, documentation, and quality assurance practices to ensure quality test results.
  • Ensures timely and accurate submission of reports to achieve compliance with regulatory requirements, and to support system operation and maintenance needs.
  • Participates in industry organizations to stay abreast of laboratory issues.
  • Performs maintenance on instrumentation with guidance from Chemist Sr or Lead Chemist.
  • Performs documented routine safety checks of the laboratory.
