About The Position

The Scientist job family is responsible for 1) performing basic scientific analyses and calculations and 2) preparing specifications, reports and data tables 3) maintaining and troubleshooting instrumentation and methods. Under supervision, Scientists maintain project coordination with all other disciplines on an assigned project based on the following classification, grade, and level specific responsibilities: Under direction of the Analytical Manager or Chemistry Supervisor, you may perform technical assignments of various complexities within approved scientific schedules and budgets. May coordinate technical and administrative activities with employees in other disciplines and other departments participating on an assigned project. May assist in the training and evaluation of assigned scientific personnel. May supervise a discipline group. This position shall be performed under the day-to-day direction, control, and supervision of WTCC This job description is not intended to include every duty, task or instruction for which an employee is responsible. Other tasks may be assigned, based on business needs and management requests.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry or related scientific or engineering discipline from a four (4) year accredited college or university. Appropriate training and experience commensurate with the responsibilities of the position may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 10+ years of experience in one or more areas of expertise including wet chemistry, elemental chemistry, separations chemistry or radiochemistry obtained through a combination of education and working in an environmental, research, process control, or radiological laboratory.
  • Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without Amentum visa sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.
  • (Even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge.)

Nice To Haves

  • Desired experience includes developing analytical methods for use in radiological fume hoods, working knowledge of process control techniques, supporting continuous process operations, and familiarity with regulatory requirements as applied to laboratory operations.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot radiochemical equipment and instrumentation, including Liquid Scintillation Counters, Gas-Flow Proportional (GPC) counting systems, High Purity Germanium (HPGe) detectors, Alpha spectrometry systems & other general laboratory equipment.
  • Perform subject matter expert duties on one or more radiochemistry processes including method optimization & qualification, training material and procedure development.
  • Provide training and technical assistance to laboratory and external department personnel.
  • Perform work within the bounds of procedures and defined work control processes with the utmost concern for the safety of self and other employees.
  • Maintain physical inventory of radioactive materials.
  • Apply instruction from technical and quality documents to physically performed actions and procedure development.
  • Design and execute investigative studies to assist Plant Engineering
  • Review and evaluate sample and quality results for reporting and trending.
  • Maintain proper scientific files and records
  • Support and perform sample and data management activities
  • Build productive relationships within Operations and other external work groups
