Job Summary Battelle is seeking an Exercise Program Designer to work in the Emergency Response Branch at the CDC. The Emergency Response Branch (ERB) develops and performs unique laboratory tests to assess chemical exposures during a public health emergency or terrorist event. The ERB works with public health laboratories in states, territories, cities and counties through the Laboratory Response Network (LRN-C), to assist in expanding local laboratory capacity and preparedness for chemical-terrorism response. The individual in this role will work with the current ERB Exercise Coordinator to apply standard Federal exercise practices to existing CDC ERB and LRN-C exercise programs. The selected applicant will have to obtain and maintain a CDC security clearance and a DoD secret security clearance and will work on-site at the CDC Chamblee Campus in Atlanta, GA .

Requirements

Degree in chemistry, biochemistry or related scientific field with experience in emergency management preparedness and response activities.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Experience with data summarization and report preparation.
Experience in clinical laboratory setting and knowledge of basic lab safety.

Responsibilities

Develop action plans to achieve sustainable exercise programs.
Design standard communication templates for exercise activities including: overview/educational one pagers, meeting and planning agendas, exercise design templates, exercise broadcasts, situation reports (SITREPs) and after-action summary reports.
Design instructional tools (presentations, SOPs, work instructions) to communicate the expectations of LRN-C member labs in the execution of their tasks for each exercise type.
Develop timelines for exercise activities, encompassing planning, preparation, execution, monitoring, data collection and transfer, and after-action reporting.
Implement standard Federal exercise practices (such as FEMA, DoD or APHL Emergency Response Exercise models) to guide concepts, principles, practices, and techniques as applied to existing LRN-C exercises.
Codify SOPs for Exercise Coordinator and Incident Response Laboratory Manager tasks in the execution of individual exercises.
Collaborate with Division of Laboratory Sciences (DLS) Office of the Director (OD) to optimize response practices and support evaluation using response exercises.
Adhere to CDC/NCEH/DLS and CLIA 88 guidelines with regard to laboratory protocols and quality control.
Adhere to the CDC/NCEH/DLS policy of treating all data as confidential.
Adhere to the CDC/NCEH/DLS and Battelle policy of laboratory safety and security.
