Summary: The Chemist I supports the Chemistry Department in providing analytical testing and technical services to internal manufacturing teams and external customers. Responsibilities include performing routine testing of raw materials, in-process, finished product, stability, water, and particulate samples using standard laboratory equipment such as pH meters, spectrophotometers, and TOC analyzers. The Chemist I ensures accurate documentation, executes protocols, summarizes data, and contributes to method transfers and new product onboarding. This role also assists with equipment maintenance, data entry, SOP reviews, and compliance with regulatory requirements. The Chemist I participates in training, cross-functional collaboration, and maintains a state of audit readiness, including aseptic gowning and adherence to DEA clearance requirements where applicable.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in in Science, Chemistry, Biology or related field of study
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in chemistry or related role, preferred
  • Minimum of one (1) years experience of aseptic/sterile experience in a pharmaceutical or related industry, preferred
  • The ideal candidate should have the ability to read and interpret various documents, such as safety instructions, standard operating procedures, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Additionally, they should possess strong written and verbal communication skills, along with effective presentation skills.
  • Proficient in executing arithmetic operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division across various units of measurement, employing whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages. Candidates must possess a strong grasp of algebraic and geometric principles.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical foundation and proven capability in effectively utilizing diverse software tools to streamline the organization's daily functions. Essential skills encompass adeptness in manufacturing and internet software, alongside proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Proficient in the use of operational theories of all common laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to perform independent work related to projects and/or routine activities.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure with limited supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Be accessible to laboratory and plant area(s) and office staff and to use required office equipment.
  • Must pass a background check

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine analytical testing on raw materials, in-process samples, finished products, stability samples, plant water, and particulates in accordance with established procedures and test methods.
  • Operate standard laboratory equipment such as pH meters, balances, UV/Visible spectrophotometers, and Total Organic Carbon (TOC) analyzers.
  • Accurately document all laboratory activities and results in compliance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
  • Execute testing protocols, participate in method transfers, and assist in the onboarding of new customer products.
  • Interpret and summarize basic data sets and communicate findings to management.
  • Enter test results and related data into applicable laboratory data management systems.
  • Review and train on standard operating procedures (SOPs), ensuring alignment with current practices and regulatory expectations.
  • Participate in internal and external training sessions related to laboratory techniques, regulatory requirements, and quality systems.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the laboratory to ensure audit readiness and compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
  • Support cross-training within the department and collaborate with other teams to meet production and testing schedules.
  • Assist with the evaluation and implementation of new laboratory equipment or procedures.
  • Follow aseptic gowning procedures and maintain DEA clearance as required to work with controlled substances.
  • Adhere to all safety, regulatory, and company policies to ensure a compliant and safe working environment.
  • Read/interpret SOPs to ensure compliance
  • Maintain up to date trainings
