About The Position

This position performs technical and analytical services essential to the operation of a fossil fuel power plant, including water treatment, and chemical analysis of water and wastewater, coal ash, and petroleum products; provides chemical protection of the steam generating equipment to minimize outages due to corrosion and deposits in steam cycle components; minimizes the loss of efficiency and possible replacement of steam generating, condensing and turbine mechanical components; ensures compliance with governmental and environmental regulation regarding water discharges.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Chemistry or other field of science with a MINIMUM of 12 semester hours in Chemistry required.
  • Must qualify on the EEI Technician Occupations Selection System [TECH] test.
  • Experience and competency in the use, calibration and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation/equipment
  • Knowledge of proper analytical methods and techniques.
  • Previous experience in large water treatment operations desired.
  • Previous experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with mechanical parts and repair is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in production of deionized water is preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Detailed knowledge of chemical treatment methods and operation of water treatment plant is preferred
  • Broad knowledge of analytical, inorganic, oil, environmental and water chemistries
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems, read and understand schematic diagrams and identify plant water process problems
  • Proficiency in various Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

  • Order and inventory lab reagents
  • Filter backwashes
  • RO cleans
  • Maintain chemical inventory
  • Cooling Towers: Daily grab samples
  • Determine blow down operation
  • Chemical Adjustments
  • Bleach/Biocide
  • Fill Day Tanks
  • Maintain chemical inventory
  • Water Analysis Labs: Fill/Check ammonia tanks and pumps daily
  • Check AIL
  • Stator checks
  • Daily, Weekly, and Monthly Sampling
  • Analyzer troubleshooting
  • Analyzer calibrations QA/QC
  • Enter Data into Watcher for monthly reporting
  • Polishers: Perform Regeneration
  • Transfer Resin Batches as needed
  • Scrubber Lab: Daily pH and density grabs
  • Perform daily and monthly testing of absorber
  • Gypsum purity and moisture
  • Data entry daily
  • QA/QC: Perform PMs assigned to CHM for pH and density
  • Wastewater: Daily testing of LVWW, FGD, and Bio system
  • Instrument calibrations and QA/QC
  • Data Entry
  • General Troubleshooting on lab equipment and analyzers
  • Chemical Pump Drawdowns
  • CYRP checks
  • Arrange for empty tote pickup
  • Report abnormalities to system owner, process owner, or operations
  • Sewage Treatment Plant: Check pH in aeration chamber
  • Backwash fuzzy filter
  • Check overall health of plant
  • Change caustic tote as needed
  • Add chlorine tablets as needed
  • Check UV system
  • Washout drum screen
  • Monitor drum screen waste container
  • Perform equipment checks
  • Perform lift station checks
  • Truck Unloading: Sulfuric Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Klaraid, Sodium Hypochlorite, Multiple Suez tanks at the cooling towers and service towers, CaCl2/CaBr2, Aqueous Ammonia
  • LOTO: All lab team members are required to perform LOTO and quarterly LOTO Assessments
