With the food industry increasingly subject to scrutiny, testing to ensure compliance with food safety regulations and to protect public health is a must. What are we looking for? Intertek Nutraceuticals and Food Services team helps clients involved in the manufacturing and distribution of nutraceuticals and food products and services through assurance, testing, inspection, auditing, and certification. From the farm to the fork, we assist customers at all points of the food supply chain in providing quality and safety to the products and processes. The Chemical Technician II serves an important function at Intertek Nutraceutical Services. You will have the opportunity to work with chemists that are highly experienced in instrumental analysis and learn a variety of methods to identify and quantify a large range of molecules. We specialize in botanical component analysis providing our customer with the highest confidence in their products identity, potency, and safety. Requirements

  • BA/BS Chemistry, Biology or related scientific degree required
  • Knowledge of analytical chemistry
  • Knowledge of HPLC operation
  • 2+ years of related industry experience in an analytical laboratory
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety precautions and protocols for safe handling and the disposal of hazardous agents/reagents, chemicals and materials
  • Organization, communication, and analytical skills
  • Ability to understand and effectively communicate technical and business information, both oral and written to others, including co-workers, supervisors, subordinates, clients, and vendors
  • Intermediate mathematical skills, including algebraic functions, statistics (mean, median, standard deviation, variance, probability), basic geometry (area, volume calculations), and scientific calculators
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to work varied and extended hours/days, as business dictates

Responsibilities

  • Plans, performs and completes projects under direct supervision
  • Demonstrates proficiency in setting up, adjusting, operating and calibrating laboratory equipment and instruments
  • Independently performs lab tests to determine physical and chemical characteristics
  • Performs data analysis
  • May begin doing some technical assessment
  • Knowledgeable in use of data acquisition software and instrument operating software (e.g. Turbochrom, Cerity, WinLab)
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, procedures and regulations
  • Works under general supervision
  • Primary job functions requires a certain degree of independence and judgement
  • Relies on limited experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals
  • Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned
