About The Position

The Chemical Process Technician plays a crucial role in the Michigan Can team, focusing on the RO, BM coolant system, washer, and wastewater areas of the plant. This position involves safely operating and maintaining support equipment to meet production requirements while ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

Requirements

  • Possess a minimum of 3 years' job-related experience.
  • Advanced mechanical skills and ability to use precision measuring devices.
  • Ability to learn nomenclature of all assigned equipment, products, and plant quality standards.
  • Prior experience identifying product defects.
  • Ability to take direction and work independently.
  • Basic knowledge of computer systems, gauges, tools, and equipment.
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Prior experience working on pumps, conveyors, motors, shafts, bearings, and other basic mechanical work.
  • Working knowledge of machine mechanics & troubleshooting.
  • Basic knowledge of environmental regulations.
  • Basic knowledge of chemical, oils, water treatment process techniques, and/or chemical related manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain equipment within the area of responsibility including can washing and overall can quality.
  • Operate and maintain effective running of process equipment on the manufacturing line and keep chemical process, RO, and wastewater under control.
  • Maximize production and minimize spoilage during the manufacturing process; perform daily checks to prevent spoilage, leaks, spillages, and hazards.
  • Report potential problems in the area to the crew supervisor.
  • Carry out safe repair and preventative maintenance of equipment; perform set-up checks following maintenance work.
  • Perform chemical checks and maintain proper pH and alkalinity levels of manufacturing processes.
  • Monitor and adjust wastewater systems and sludge removal for EPA compliance.
  • Maintain housekeeping in a satisfactory and safe condition as per 5s cleaning schedule.
  • Maintain safe working practices and comply with legal environmental and safety requirements.
  • Use equipment including forklifts and scissor lifts.
  • Promote quality improvement and preventative actions by involvement in continuous improvement activities.
  • Ensure a safe work environment and report unsafe conditions.
  • Maintain required hand tools, daily logbooks, and records.
