About The Position

The Chemical Plant Operator at EMD Electronics in Tamaqua, PA will operate chemical processing equipment including, but not limited to, freezeout vessels, batch distillation columns, compressors, reactors, scrubbers, driers, chillers, and liquefiers/receivers. The Operator will also maintain logs and operating records, evaluate data, and take appropriate action to control the process. Additional responsibilities include the following: Work with raw materials in the production process, including performing incoming/outgoing material inspections and preparing and/or filling containers of all sizes such as tube trailers, modules, Y containers and cylinders/cylinder packs. Perform cylinder maintenance and preparation tasks including painting, labeling, loading/unloading, shipping, shuttling, stamping, and processing while using safe handling techniques. Use analytical and systems tools to evaluate and optimize the chemical process, striving to maximize yield and throughput while minimizing waste and system downtime. Utilize equipment for manufacturing and inventory tracking, procurement, and general communications. Strive to improve operating knowledge through computer-based training (CBT) and other techniques. Perform computer functions necessary to communicate with site co-workers and to operate the plants. Perform routine plant maintenance utilizing hand tools, hand power tools, and equipment necessary to maintain the plant process equipment and will be expected to enhance his/her technical capabilities in this area; maintain plant housekeeping standards and train new operators. This is a continuous rotating 12-hour shift. 2 Weeks on Days and 2 weeks on nights.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED

Nice To Haves

  • Associate Degree in Chemical Technology, Chemistry or other life science discipline.
  • Knowledge of chemical processing techniques, safe work policies and procedures and quality practices.
  • Knowledge of customer attributes and specifications.
  • Personal computer skills and experience with distributive control systems (DCS) and programmable logic controllers (PLC).
