Performs calibration, maintenance, and construction support for all types of instrumentation and control devices and systems in fine chemical and pharmaceutical production plants, pilot plants and laboratories and their supporting utilities. The role involves calibration, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, construction, modification, testing, installation and operational checkout of electronic and electromechanical devices and systems. This includes processing utility instrumentation and controls, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, electronic, and computer based controls, laboratory equipment, test equipment, scales, recorders, programmer logic controllers, cameras, radios and computers. The position also involves validation, calibration and maintenance of pharmaceutical equipment, requiring understanding of cGMP requirements and regulations, and includes calibration and care of reference, transfer and electrical / electronic primary and secondary standards. The technician plans work sequences, determines methods, maintains, writes, and follows calibration and maintenance procedures. They coordinate with Operations to minimize downtime and provide control systems support to construction, start-up, and validation personnel. The role may involve examining process control software and using common shop tools, including lathes and mills, for instrumentation controls. Minor electrical and mechanical repair or modification work that interfaces with instrumentation and controls is also part of the job, potentially including tasks normally performed by other crafts.
