About The Position

The Chemical Operators work on a rotating shift team, focusing on field and control room chemical unit operations for safely running process systems and associated equipment during their shift. Typical duties of the operator role include but are not limited to the following: The Field Operator operates field equipment, draws process samples and prepares equipment for maintenance. The Control Room Operator monitors and operates equipment and facilities which includes combustion units, scrubbers, absorption towers, heat exchangers, and tanks via the Distributed Control System (DCS).

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • 2 years of experience in a manufacturing, industrial, and/or chemical plant environment

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of Chemical Operations background/experience is strongly preferred
  • Ability to work on a 12-hour rotating shift schedule
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to perform the physical labor associated with the job
  • Possess a strong work ethic and initiative to learn new processes
  • Ability to work at elevated heights - greater than 50 feet
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver a safe workspace based on following standard work
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and take corrective action within an industrial setting
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills
  • The ability to handle and work with highly hazardous chemical intermediates
  • Ability to wear and work in full body PPE (personal protective equipment) which includes acid suit (acid jacket & acid pants) - full face respirator and hood
  • Ability to load and unload bulk liquid chemical trucks and rail cars
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate through multiple layers of an organization
  • Computer literate

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to standard work and standard operating procedures to ensure unit safety, quality and production goals are met
  • Responsible to take and interpret readings on various equipment assessing any variation to standard troubleshooting and taking action to bring the process back to standard
  • Troubleshoot process issues and take corrective action to ensure a safe and sustainable operating area
  • Ability to handle and work with highly hazardous chemicals and the ability to wear and work in full body PPE (personal protective equipment)
  • Effectively communicating and escalating processes upsets and/or equipment issues within the organization
